The R100S is the first BMW motorcycle in BMW's history that has covered the quarter-mile in less than 13 seconds. It ran a 12.97 sec. quarter at over 103mph. putting it in the rather elevated company of the KZ1000. the Honda GB750F2 and the GS Suzuki 750 as the industry's only current 12-second offerings. BMWs have also won numerous championships in sidecar racing. knobby-tired versions have earned ISDT Gold Medals and BMW has been pre-eminent in AMA Superbike road racing. The R100/S is every inch a BMW and every inch a Sport. Anyone who thinks these are uninspired touring bikes. think again.
The Café Racing culture was thus ideally suited to the R100S. High quality mechanics. individuality and performance all conspired to form this. the CR Special. Purchased by the present owner in 2004. a well known racer and collector. it was then stripped and completely re-built by a noted BMW specialist with no financial restrictions. It is the ultimate Café Racer with a race-prepared engine and gearbox. K100 forks complete with disc brakes. MIJ Performance stainless-steel exhausts are fitted alongside a custom paint scheme in the style of the period BMWs. Power output is 90+ bhp and it is no surprise that this example has won a number of local bike shows already. Good looking and very well built. this represents proper engineering combined with heady competition aesthetics.
