1956 Norton Dominator 99 Cafe Racer
I have for sale my 1956 Wideline Dominator 99 in Cafe Racer/Domiracer trim.
Where to start is difficult as so much work has been done on the bike so I will try to break it down to component parts. So please excuse me if the reading is a little long.
Wideline Featherbed frame with Manx bearings conversion.
The old tank was fibre glass and the Ethanol in the fuel had attacked it and de laminated the glass
I purchased a brand new Paul Dunstall 5 gallon Manx long range alloy tank and had it painted by the people who do paintwork for the National Motorcycle Museum in genuine Manx Norton livery and looks superb.
It is fitted with new rear shock absorbers. I still have the old ones. nothing wrong but did not look good in black.
Brand new Norvil marine stainless steel rear set footrests again I have the old ones in black. Swepped back pipes with brand new British made Gold Star silencers (bloody expensive).
The front bake assembly is a four leading shoe unit from a Suzuki GT 750 and works very well it also looks very much like a Grimeca. this is laced into a Dunlop alloy rim with stainless spokes.
The rear brake is standard Norton with internal ventilation laced into a Borranni alloy rim with stainless spokes.
A Manx racing single seat is fitted.
The clip ons are fully adjustable in all directions to suit individual rider preferences.
A Manx alloy central oil tank is fitted wit internal battery box to make things neat.
Also fitted under the frame is an external cartridge oil filter to keep the oil clean.
The Chronometric Speedo has just been recalibrated and unfortunately reads zero but I have all the relevant documents to show true mileage.
Both tyres are good.
Both chains are in good condition.
This is a 1956 Dominator 99 600cc unit. this was rebuilt approximately 1699 miles ago and I have 90% of the receipts to prove this. the work done was as follows.
Crank regrind and new bearings.
Fast road cam fitted
High compression pistons
New superblend main bearings fitted
I have documentation for all of this and for other ancillary work on the engine.
The gearbox was overhauled and new seals and bearings fitted.
The Magneto was refurbished.
The Dynamo was refurbished and a new electronic regulator fitted. (under the hump in the seat).
I have removed the single carb and fitted a new Norvil splayed head twin carb manifold with MkI concentric's fitted these I have refurbished with new chokes. new never sink floats. new viton float needles and all new gaskets and O ring seals.
All in all the bike is in excellent condition for a 58 year old machine but as I am now retired at the age of 66 I find clipons and rearsets a little tiring now so I will stick with my Harley's but I am definitely not giving up yet.
I can be contacted through ebay or on 01283 716703 any time day or night between 06. 00hs and 23. 30hrs. Also call me if you want to view the machine (I will put the kettle on).
Cash on collection please or Bank transfer. I will not accept a cheque. The bike is advertised elsewhere so I reserve the right to remove it at any time.
