Description
Velocette Venom from 1962 - 500cc
Another of my stable for sale to fund the 'dream' bike.
I have owned and used this Velo for over 2 years - having purchased it from another Velocette Owners Club member.
It has its original engine and frame numbers. and was despatched from Velocette agent Kings of Leeds. on 16 February 1962.
The Velocette Venom is acknowledged by 'those in the know' as one of the most rideable and practical classic British motorcycles.
The powerful. torquey. and reliable single cylinder engine is more than capable of providing good acceleration. with cruising well above legal speed limits. Without doubt. The bikes themselves are stylish and full of character. a thoroughbred - with a heritage going back to the early 1900s.
The Venom is extremely well served in terms information. and of parts. with a number of specialist suppliers ensuring that spares are not only readily available but very reasonably priced.
There is a great owners club too - very active (not pot-hunters and polishers) and I can thoroughly recommend joining.
No wonder prices continue to increase for these great bikes.
This Velo is a good solid machine. not 'tarted up' for sale. and therefore suitable for every day use - even when the weather is not so perfect.
Its in good order mechanically - but would benefit from some light cosmetic TLC.
There are some chips in the paint in various places consistent with normal use.
The seat is well padded. It was like this when I bought it - but it was so comfortable. I decided not to change it. The filling can be easily removed if its not to your liking.
As always its best viewed in the flesh.
There is plenty of compresssion when starting.
It starts easily (for a Velocette). and ticks-over like it should (its fitted with electronic ignition).
Charges the battery correctly.
Tyres are good.
Just had a new MOT.
All-in-all its still a good looking Velo Venom. and always draws comments when seen on the road.
A very desirable model now.
It has correct engine and frame numbers
Has its original registration number (which may be transferable).
So. if you want a good classic bike to use in any weather. this would be a good choice.
The metal parts have been treated with a protective spray to prevent corrosion during the winter months.
Everything works - It could be ridden away today.
Text me on phone (I will not answer calls without a text first)
I have seen similar bikes listed for over £9500. and part-assembled projects for £6000. but I am happy to sell at the listed price for a fast sale.
Its a beautiful and solid bike - but remember - this motorcycle is over 50 years old - be realistic in your expectations - its not like a modern Yamaha or Honda (thank God).
Do come and view without obligation to buy.
The value of this Velocette can only go up due to its age and rarity. historic tax is free.
Sorry - UK sale ONLY
This is a 'classified' listing.
