Description
You are looking at my 1955 BSA Bantam D3 plunger. It has had a 1968 D14 175cc four speed engine fitted with new Amal Concentric carb. Being built and registered in 1955 it is tax and MOT exempt. I have the current V5 which is in my name. It has been built to look like the competition trials version with a front alloy plate and lightweight alloy mudguards. It has been updated with a new solid state voltage regulator/rectifier and the stator has been converted to 12 volt and negative earth. The coil is recent and i have fitted a new HT lead and spark plug. I also fitted a Rooster Booster points assisted transistorized electronic ignition and removed the condenser. You can easily revert back to standard points system if required. It has a sealed 3. 4AH battery fitted inside the tool box and a toggle ignition switch. It has a brake light which looks to be from a Yamaha TY and a bulb horn and new pressed aluminium number plate. It has been recently built and painted. It has had the wheels respoked and new Mitas tyres fitted. I have fitted a new speedo cable which is linked to the original D shaped Smiths speedo which works fine. There is a small bore "trials style" upswept exhaust with a D14 silencer fitted. I fitted a new folding kickstart as the fixed one kept digging into my cald whilst riding it. I have recently de-coked the engine which has good compression and runs fine and goes through the gears as it is supposed to. I fitted the new style grease nipples all round as modern grease guns do not fit the British ones. This bike could be the basis of a restoration back to standard or would look great as a trials replica bike. Unfortunately as usual i didn't think things through and being six foot four tall and used to Japanese bikes with the gears and brake on the wrong side i have found it doesn't suit me too well. I will be honest and list the bad points as well as there is room for improvements on this bike. It isn't a great starter from cold but once started it easily starts again first kick. There is also a slight gearbox oil leak(not unusual for a British bike) and the clutch tends to slip under hard throttle in top gear. If i was keeping it i would also fit a kill button rather than stalling the bike in gear. I have reached the realization that i am more interested in 1970. and 80. Japanese trail bikes which i will be getting next. The bike can be viewed on request and the usual rules apply.
I will not accept Paypal. Please message me if you wish to know any more about the bike. Thanks for looking and good luck.
There is a Haynes manual. Bantam profile book. Spare head gasket and a couple of exhaust gaskets and a carb gasket which i will include in this sale.
