Description

1970 BSA 650cc A65 Lightning Frame Number HD10785A65L Engine Number HD10785A65L
Up for sale is a 1970 BSA A65 Lightning. The beautiful bike offered here is in remarkable condition and is a “numbers matching” motorcycle. Everything on this bike is working perfectly. The previous owner started the restoration process and then the bike was acquired by a motorcycle dealer. We acquired it as an incomplete project, and we finished the restoration. Engine (including gearbox) work was done by Clinch Mountain Motor Works in Tazewell, Virginia. Gearbox was rebuilt. Internal bushings replaced where required. We employed the services of a British specialized shop (Vintage Twins in Arvada, Colorado) to ensure the engine had been rebuilt to high standards. Well maintained since the work was done, this bike starts after one or two kicks. It rides well with great brakes and good suspension. All mechanicals refreshed. Shows some signs of aging but very nice bike in excellent condition. All lights work (oil pressure and high beam indicator). Speedo and Tachometer work, and both are backlit for evening visibility. Updated electronic ignition, new Lucas components to include new switch gear, new brake switches. Charging system is strong and proper (as has all new components). Below is a list of updates and upgrades: - New Lucas wiring loom - New Amal Carburetors - New fuel petcocks - New Lucas handlebar switch - New LED headlight and LED brake light - New brake, clutch, speedo, tachometer cables - New oil pressure sensor - New oil sump with magnetic drain plug - New stainless-steel hardware throughout - New modern voltage regulator - New reproduction seat - New coils, spark plug cables and spark plugs - New battery and capacitor - New wet sump oil valve fitted - New clutch and brake levers - New clutch mechanism internals - Tank and side covers were repainted at some point, chrome is original. There are lots of minor deviations from stock but overall, the bike is solid. A great bike to be enjoyed for many years. The current mileage on the Odometer is 50 miles. That is the mileage since the engine was rebuilt in 2020. As the previous owner had no history on the bike, the original mileage is unknown. However, given its condition it is fair to say it enjoyed a great life before the previous owner started the restoration.
Title is a Colorado title and clean.
We can send running/start videos - just contact us. Lots of receipts included with the bike. The motorcycle does have signs of wear. Paintwork is good but not perfect; there are some paint chips on the tank and frame here and there. There are some chips and normal use marks on the engine covers. Chrome on front fender, grab rail and gas tank is excellent. All are from normal use but mentioned here for full transparency. Slight overnight oil weep from primary side cover (going to re-seal it with silicone). No warranties expressed or implied; as is where is sale. Motorcycle is available for inspection.
