Description
1960 Triumph T100 rep, 500cc excellent runner, V5C
Here is a wonderful, sweet running T100 style Triumph in poor cosmetic condition but excellent running order. This bike has been built up in the style of T100 (or T100c) as a rider's bike not a matching numbers machine. It is an excellent starter and runs very nicely, no smoke and sounds good and quiet mechanically. It rides really well too, good gears & clutch, good brakes (excellent TLS front). Charging system is working well with excellent lights. There is no battery but the bike starts very easily usually 2nd kick from cold utilising a good old a Lucas 2MC capacitor to boost starting. The lights need to be off to kick start the bike but once running the 12 V lighting is excellent.(regulated by another faithful Lucas component the Zener diode!) Small type Smith's speedo is working.
The bike is in generally excellent rideable condition and ready to enjoy without fear of spoiling the cosmetics! There is an up to date V5C doc. Registration number is 872 XVW. Frame number is H15292, engine number is 3TA H15313, ie 350cc cases. Engine itself is definitely 500cc though and is registered as such! The bike is registered as a Historic Vehicle therefore road tax is free and it is MOT exempt.
Cosmetically the bike is generally very dull and very well used looking. It's clearly been an all-weather bike. The enamel on the frame is probably the best cosmetic news since this is actually very decent older powder coat. The rest of the paintwork is scruffy and marked and with light surface corrosion in places. Petrol tank is beautiful and clean inside, not been linered. There is no fin damage on engine. Front wheel rim is in reasonable order, speckled chrome, dull but sound original type spokes, clean nipples. Front tyre is a 50% worn Metzler. Rear rim has very poor chrome. Spokes are dull old and dirty but sound, nipples all ok. Rear tyre is new looking “Kenda” 17 x 3.50 Exhaust system is sound but scruffy. Seat is old but serviceable. Good sidestand and excellent centre stand fitted.
All in all this is a rare opportunity to find a well sorted mechanically but very scruffy used & useable old Triumph which looks like it's just rolled in from 1969 day to day transport. It would seem a shame to restore this bike, surely the best bet would be to enjoy it how it is with no worries about maintaining cosmetic appearances. A great winter rider's bike or possibly a project to restore to once shiny glory! Don't miss this sweet running very useable, very scruffy Triumph T100 rep.
