Description
Former GP racer Randy Mamola has owned this Panhead since 1982. In 1992 the bike was professionally customized with a rebuilt engine and tranny, custom flame paint scheme by Horst and several chromed parts and chrome hardware.
The bike has about 1000 miles since the rebuild. It has been stored in CA. since 2006. It's all original, except exhaust system, S&S Super E, handlebars, tranny side cover, voltage regulator and 12-volt system. The wishbone frame is straight and undamaged but missing the toolbox mount. Work just done includes fresh oil and filter, points and condenser, plugs and wires, chain adjustments, solid lifter adjustments, new clutch plates, new battery, and a rebuilt carb. A Linkert gas strainer and steel gas line were attached to the S&S using a modified fitting. The S&S backplate was modified to fit a round air cleaner and uses an internal throttle cable. The heads are the later model with the '56-part number and a later oil pump. Belly numbers match. The primary is chain, so it diddles a little oil. Engine and tranny are oil tight. The bike runs strong, shifts solid, no smoke and brakes sharp. This is a one to two-kick cold-start bike.
Here are the minor to moderate issues with the bike: 1) The lower coil mounting stud was not used. It's secured with a spacer and bolt. 2) The outer bolt hole threads for the circuit breaker are worn, the other threads are fine. The circuit breaker is secure. 3) No horn but the button is on the throttle side of the handlebar. 4) There is no left twist grip, so the circuit breaker has to be hand operated. 5) Damage to paint and seat are shown in photos. 6) Tires have some cracking. There are no major issues.
The California title is clear and in Randy's name. The bike was last registered in 2006. Registration is currently non-op. All known issues have been disclosed.
