Description
1951 Harley Davidson FL I have owned this bike for over 10 years and have really enjoyed riding it. I am not riding much anymore as we have young boys and time is just not available. When I purchased this bike it was not running and the primary had been taken apart. The reason it was taken apart is that it had a compensating sprocket on it and the previous owner must have not been able to tighten the nut correctly and destroyed and lost the nut. I tried to find another with little luck and ended up switching to a solid sprocket, At this time I rebuilt the generator and had rewired the entire bike as the original 51 wiring was not to my standard. I also added the front fender light and passing lights that are period correct OEM Harley pieces. Most all parts on the bike are OEM Harley and appear to be original to the bike.
I have inspected the vin and it is the original Harley stamping, the belly/line bore numbers are there and appear to match however one side is difficult to read the entire number due to what appears to be a light stamp or factory misalignment that caused it to be hard to read. My belief is that it was gone thru in the 90s and the original sheet metal was repainted to its current appearance.
The bike runs and rides as it should and I have run it about 2,000 miles since I bought it. It has period correct quick detach Buco saddle bags, they are old and show wear but look nice on the bike. The speedo shows around 21,000mi and I believe this to be accurate, the speedo works perfectly as does the trip meter.
The original handlebars have the correct functioning throttle and timing.
The bike is registered as a collector here in MN and displays an original 51 MN plate, This plate had never been installed or registered prior to my application.
I am not a Harley expert, I am a school teacher in the Machine shop. I have taken care of this bike to the best of my ability and have spent 10 years collecting the pieces that were not OEM Harley, anything that is not OEM is included with sale of the Bike and is included in pictures.
Please do not ask questions that are answered by reading this listing in its entirety or looking at pictures. I will take more pics if requested and post them to the listing if possible.

I did forget to mention that I did replace the original fuel shut off assembly with an updated peek shut off that. The OEM pieces are included and shown in the pics.
This bike is still 6 volt and I do have the original horn, its just not on the bike but is included.
This bike retains OEM Harley sheet metal to my knowledge and is most likely original to the bike, I am not a Harley historian but a classic car enthusiast with many years of knowledge and can confirm that all evidence leads to it being original to the bike. There is no visible damage or repair the frame, engine or transmission. The pouch on the handlebars is a Leatherman multitool for roadside maintenance if needed and looks cool.
The generator and oil lights work correctly. The wiring harness is correct but not NOS it is a correct reproduction of the original, I have the original and it will be included in the sale. The pics of the extra parts do have snow on them. Its been snowing here in MN.
The ignition switch is original but key is not Briggs and Stratton.
The fork lock is correct and intact but the key does not fit, it should be rekeyed to ignition.
The throttle and timing work correctly and probably better than new. I replaced the original internal wire with stainless steel wire and have lubricated the cable and handlebar components.
I am not happy to sell this bike as I have really enjoyed it and met lots of great people while owning it, but its time for someone else to enjoy it as I have. Also It is dirty and in as ridden condition, I feel it adds to the character of the machine and truly shows that it gets ridden. I used to ride it to the school I teach at weekly, but now have two young boys who I drop off and pick up daily so riding the panhead is rare for me now.
I was informed that this bike has incorrect front fender trim for 1951, I have one of the originals in the parts I have from previous owner. My guess is that he was missing the correct 51 trim on one side so he used what he had or could find. I have updated my listing pics to show the correct trim piece that I have as well as one buddy peg mount and the OEM wiring harness that I removed as well as better pics of the tool box.
