Description
1960 BSA A7SS, 500cc excellent runner with V5C
Here is a tidy sweet running example of the A7SS ”Shooting Star” Not a matching numbers example because 58 A7SS engine in 1961 frame. The bike starts easily and sounds excellent mechanically no strange noises and clean exhaust, not smoking. Does not wet-sump! Lovely smooth engine clean power delivery, very good for 500cc. Bike handles really well, excellent brakes (especially the TLS front brake). Lights are all good with good regulated charging from the 6V dynamo. Speedo is working. Great fun bike to ride and enjoy.
Comes with V5C doc, registration 880 XWA.
Date of registration is 9th May 1960. Frame number is GA7.6507, engine number is CA7SS 4659, both are genuine BSA factory stampings. I do not know whether the frame number is A7 or A10 but either way they are not a matched pair!
The bike is registered as a Historic Vehicle, therefore road tax is free of charge and it is MOT exempt.
Cosmetically it is clean and tidy but obviously with an older used bike look about it. Enamel on the frame is in fair condition but clearly used looking. Tank is excellent with only a few minor imperfections in the enamel and almost perfect chrome sides. (There a slight blemish under chrome on left side. Tank is good and clean inside and has not been linered. Tinware is generally well painted and in decent used very presentable but not “show” condition.
Front wheel rim has good chrome with some minor “flecks”. Spokes are Stainless nipples are plated. Front tyre is excellent, hardly used Avon SM MKII ribbed. Rear rim is pretty well perfect, stainless spokes and nipples. Rear tyre is a Mitas, block tread (like Dunlop Universal). It is also in excellent hardly used condition. There is no fin damage on the engine.
Seat is in very nice condition, exhaust system is very good too. Both side & centre stands are fitted and in good order. All in all this is a great practical example of one of the best all round classics, the super smooth and remarkably lively 500cc A7SS.
Selling as a good useable “old bike”.
