Description
1958 Triumph 200cc Tiger Cub Trials Bike with V5C.
Here is a very nicely put together Tiger Cub trials bike with many interesting trials goodies.
The bike starts very easily, ignition is by total loss battery-less Rita electronic and works brilliantly. 2nd or 3rd kick from cold then first prod every-time. The engine sounds great and goes really well. It is currently set up for trials work with the gearing and air filter. For riding on the road it runs much better with air filter removed but obviously on current gearing it's just too high revving for going above 30mph. It would certainly need gearing up for road / trail type use and a less stifling air filter for larger throttle openings required on the road. Front brake is excellent, the rear is a bit weak. There is a bolted on tubular strengthening bar under the tank which clamps to the original cub tank mounting points. It is set to tick over nicely on Del Orto carb. However, there is no kill switch so presumably just adjust tick over down so it shuts of when throttle fully closed.
The bike comes with a V5C registration doc. Frame number is T32066, engine number is T20 9055Y. These numbers match the V5C doc., but the frame number has been restamped, (like 99% of cub trials bikes this is a built up bike, technically a Trials Cub replica). Date of registration WDX961A is given as 8th Nov 1985 but it is “declared manufactured 1957”. It is registered for historic class road tax, ie. Free to tax and MOT exempt.
Cosmetically the bike has clearly had a fortune spent and has been rebuilt to a very high standard. Then again it has been used since and so it not pristine or showroom. Enamel on the frame is good quality powder coat. Tank has been nicely painted in yellow but has a light dent on the left side. The tank is alloy and is immaculate inside.
Wheels are excellent. Beautiful flangeless Akront alloys & stainless spokes & nipples. Front is 21”, rear is 18” Tyres are both excellent hardly used Michelin Trials Competition tyres which look to be road legal, (ie more surface area of rubber than gaps between the tread). The engine is all alloy, square fin type. It has a couple of small chips to the small fins on the bottom of rocker box area of head left side. These are only really noticeable if you look very closely!
Exhaust is in good condition. It has discoloured though and the silencer is alloy and is a bit loose and rattly at the joint. It could do with a shim / packing. All in all this is an eye catching and practical, well set up Cub Trials bike. Could easily be geared up for trail / green lane use of enjoyed as a more or less ready to go pre 65 Trials bike. Selling as a very good runner.
