Description
Bike is in excellent condition and was running when parked. Currently turns over and occasionally fires but has fuel leaking out the carburetor overflow. Most likely stuck floats but I currently don't have the time or motivation to pull the carbs and rebuild or clean them. If you ride near sea level, the carbs will need to be removed and rejetted anyway since they're currently set up for around 4000 feet altitude. The floats were drained when parked a few years ago and I've never run ethanol fuel. The tank is clean and rust free. Here is what I know about the history of the bike.
The bike had a complete nut and bolt restoration by Tim's CBX around 2010 which was verified by the previous owner. The engine was rebuilt by CBX Motorworks when OEM parts were readily available. My understanding was the gauge cluster was new or zeroed out when the engine was rebuilt so everything is very low miles after the rebuild. I have no way of knowing what the actual mileage was on the chassis or engine at the time of restoration but the mileage since rebuild indicates 2082. VIN is listed and engine number is SC03E-2002591.
The bike was rebuilt as close to stock as possible with the minor exception of upgraded stainless steel brake lines and an electronic ignition with Dyna coils.
Bike has the stock tool kit with the exception of the shock spanner wrench. A picture of the bike as I bought it is included. I wanted to build the bike into what I wanted back in the day and made some minor modifications. I kept the major components such as exhaust, airbox, wheels, etc. which are included with the purchase and all modifications are reversible. I've added a Kerker 6 into 1 exhaust, Ohlins shocks, frame sliders, fork brace, sport bars, and a K&N filter and jet kit. With the stock airbox, the engine needed to be dropped to remove the carbs for jetting or service. The K&N filters eliminate that requirement. I also swapped out to Prolink wheels which are wider. The new Bridgestone front tire is now a 100/90-19 and the new Bridgestone rear a 130/80-18. The Kerker exhaust has some type of ceramic coating it appears. I consider myself lucky to have found one for sale as they are extremely rare.
There are some minor scrapes on the collector as can be seen in one of the photos. However, this is THE BEST mod to this bike. A six into one Kerker is in my opinion, the best sounding engine ever. I've included a short clip of the audio.
I've always kept the bike garaged and it ran fine with no mechanical issues when parked. Due to not riding it ( I own 18 motorcycles ) I've decided to sell off a few that never get ridden. After fueling the bike and trying to start it, it turned over fine and tried to fire but I noticed both fuel coming out the carburetor overflow and the fuel petcock was leaking. I've since replaced the petcock with a new OEM part but as mentioned earlier, I just don't have the time or motivation to pull the carbs and redo them.
Small issues with the bike. A fin near the drain plug is chipped. I purchased a replacement oil pan but never installed it and will include that with the sale ( if I can find it among the myriad of parts boxes in my garage ). Also, after installing the sport bars, the included cable was too long. The steel cable itself, not the casing. I'm out of adjustment and it still turns about a quarter throttle before it engages the carb linkage. Simple fix to shorten but again, something I never got around to.
Overall this is a really nice, restored CBX with low miles on the rebuilt engine and chassis. It shouldn't take much time or money to get it back up and running.
Shipping for the bike and original parts if desired are the buyer's responsibility. If you provide your own shipper, they'll need to coordinate with me when I'll be home and not just show up unannounced when I'm not. ( I've had that happen before ). But I have a lot of time off so I don't suspect that will be an issue. I've also used www.motorcycleshippers.com on several occasions and have been very pleased with their service. They have a depot locally and I will gladly drop the bike off there if you choose them. If you decide to pick the bike up in person, that's great too. If you don't think it was described accurately, I'll gladly refund your $500 deposit no questions asked. The non-refundable deposit requirement is to hopefully deter tire kickers and non-serious buyers.
Bike is sold with a clean, Utah title and a $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 24 hours. The title shows 0 miles since the State of Utah doesn't require mileage on motorcycles of this vintage.
The bike is sold without warranty, expressed or implied. However, I strive to be an honest person. We've all been taken advantage of or flat out lied to when buying used vehicles and I don't want to be that seller. On the same note, bidders can be problematic too. I accept cash, cashier's check, or wire transfer but the motorcycle and title will not be released until funds clear. Please message me with any questions. Thanks for looking.
