Description
Honda CB72. 1961.
ATTENTION I'VE DROP THE PRICE TO $8,995 NOW IS YOUR CHANCE I NEED TO SELL I'M 74 YEARS OLD AND IN POOR HEALTH.
YOU'VE NEVER SEEN A CB72 HONDA ANY YEAR BUT SPECIALLY THIS ONE A 1961 HONDA CB72 (250cc) SUPER HAWK THIS IS THE ONLY 1961 CB 72 HONDA EVER SHIPPED TO THE UNITED STATES FOR DISPLAY ONLY AT AMERICAN HONDA FROM 3/1/61 IN TILL 5/31/62 AND AFTER THAT IN LATE 1962 THEY STARTED SHIPPING A FEW IF NEEDED BUT THEY WERE ALL TITLED 1963 THIS IS THE ONE THAT WAS ON DISPLAY AT 4077 PICO BLVD. LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA.
THE REASON WAS THE HONDA CB72 WAS BACK ORDER IN JAPAN AND EUROPE BECAUSE THE LARGEST BIKE YOU COULD HAVE IN JAPAN AT THE TIME WAS A 250cc MACHINE AND IN EUROPE ANY THING OVER 250cc HAD A SPECIAL SUR TAX YOU PAID EVERY YEAR WHEN YOU RENEWED YOUR REGISTRATION AND DAMAND WAS SUPER HIGH IN JAPAN AND EUROPE FOR THE 250cc MACHINES. BUT IN TURN AMERICA WAS THE ONLY COUNTRY TO RECEIVED THE CB77 305 SUPER HAWKS IN 1961 AND 1962 IT WAS THE BASICALLY SAME MOTORCYCLE BUT HAD 5 MORE HORSE POWER AND ONLY COST $40 MORE MONEY THE CB72 WAS ALMOST AS FAST BUT TEN TIMES SMOOTHER BECAUSE OF THE SMALLER PISTONS.
THERE IS MORE TO THE STORY BUT NO ROOM HERE BUT I CAN FILL YOU IN ON REQUEST.
THIS IS A SUPER RARE PIECE OF HISTORY NO MUSEUM ANY WHERE HAS AN AMERICAN HONDA SHIPPED 1961 OR 1962 CB72 BECAUSE THERE WEREN'T ANY THE EARLIEST CB72 AT BARBER. PETERSON'S L. A., OR THE AMA MUSEUM WHICH THEY ALL HAVE ONE BUT IT IS A 1963.
Very straight never crashed, New tires and tubes, New chain and sprockets front and rear, New handle bars, all cables, clutch and brake levers, clutch and brake levers holders, New period hand grips, two new seats, gas tank powder coated, tank panels tank badges are perfect, new after market mufflers, new air cleaners and velocity tubes, and much more. The only reason I'm sell is my age and health issues I'm leaving the completion of the bike to the next owner because it deserves a full restoration and I'm not young enough or healthy enough to do it. I started it and drove it when I bought it. It's the only CB72 Honda ever titled in Nevada any year. There was only a handful of CB72 ever shipped compared to CB77 the 305 Super Hawk. Just like the first year CB77 Honda Super Hawk 1961 which Honda only shipped 1241 there are many different one time things on it just like the 1961 CB72 from drilled out axles to you name it. The seat mounts is one and this seat pan has been media blasted and powder coated.
It comes with an owners manual and tool kit, two keys, and an unused and unopened genuine Honda parts book the pages are brilliantly white.
The front Fender has been Bobbed and the Headlight case has some small damaged it received some where along the way a average body man could fix it. It is the most exciting motorcycle I've ever owned and I've had it for over 15 years. The hand full of 250cc that were eventually shipped 3479 over a six year period compared to 300,000 305cc over the same six year period and the 250cc were all basically raced in the AMA 250cc Classes in 1963, 1964, and 1965 when they were very competitive and basically destroyed adding to that's why there aren't any around anymore. There are a million one of a kind things to this bike from aluminum fenders, frame, speedo cage, tail light, seat pan, ext. ext, and on and on.
