Description
Here is a Triumph Bonneville T140V. I took it in part exchange yesterday for my collectors quality Honda CBX1000. in order to facilitate a deal. and I am selling it on. I'm not a dealer and so the V5c was posted off yesterday. It will be back in a couple of weeks.
I have a letter from the previous owner saying that he bought it from a guy who had kept it inside his house. having bought it in 1981.
The last owner then proceeded to keep it on display in his own house. So. about 30 odd years of centrally heated. damp free storage and pampering with minimal use. The bike was prepped for the road and MOT'd in 2005 at 4700 miles. When I listed this. I misquoted current mileage at 4593. it is actually 4953. This gave someone the idea that the bike had been clocked. but it was actually just a simple keyboard error. The last owner bought it just after the MOT and towed it home with the back wheel down. not realising it added miles to the counter all the way home - hence the current mileage. Prior to the most recent period of display. the bike was drained of fluids. lots of fasteners replaced with stainless steel. a new exhaust system put on and a new tank. The tank has never seen petrol. The colour is a very fetching white with blue. but it shows up too dark inmost of the pictures. The original red tank. in excellent condition. is included in the sale. The mileage is warranted as correct by the previous owner and I see no reason to doubt him. He told me he decided to replace it because he said his wife got fed up with dusting and polishing it. I'm not really interested in owning a trailer queen/display bike anymore. that's why I sold the Honda.
Mods - so. the bike is not currently sporting an original tank. but the original is with it and could just be swapped over if you want originality. The bike has been fitted with a Wassell electronic ignition. It has also been fitted with an hydraulic clutch. which is very nicely done. retaining the original clutch lever. It comes with a pair of silencers. taken off the bike as part of the starting up process for display. but really in first class condition. Apparently. the previous owner didn't like the blueing of the downpipes when he displayed the bike. so he replaced the whole system and junked the discoloured parts - it makes you want to weep/laugh/cry.
Faults - the only fault I can see is a patch of paint on the right side panel is dull. It looks like a spill has affected the lacquer a little. It is easily rectified. if that is an issue for you.
Bike comes with a copy of the workshop manual and a Haynes manual. Obviously. with long static display and very low miles. there is no service history record.
As the bike has not been run since 2007. it needs to be recommissioned if you want to use it on the road. However. everything seems OK with it and I don't see the point if you are going to put it into a collection. where it really belongs. You are very welcome to inspect the bike in Ringwood Hants.
This is an unusual opportunity. A 35 year old bike with such low miles. It really looks like it is only a few months old.
I have been very happy with the courier service provided by a local company and would recommend them to you at £109 plus VAT to anywhere in England or £149 plus VAT anywhere on the UK mainland. http://www.bldgroup.co.uk/service-repairs/motorcycle-delivery/
