Description
Kenny Roberts Yamaha TZ 750 Flat Tracker replica
Here I have for sale my Yamaha TZ 750 Flat Tracker Kenny Roberts replica. As far as I know it is the only one anywhere in the world which is street legal!
I have had the bike up for sale before but to be honest with the amount of idiots who contacted me and wanted to swap their granny and her false teeth for it I found it difficult to part with the bike. But now it is time for her to go as I have another great project in the planning.
I have owned the bike since 2010 and bought it from its builder Jeff Elliott. I have had loads of fun with the bike riding and showing it at many British Superbike championship events.
You can see the bike running at Cadwell Park BSB on video
Jeff at the IOM Ramsey sprint video
It is just great fun to ride although can take a little getting used to. Up to 7000 rpm it's just like riding an RD400 at around 7. 00 rpm well it all gets really interesting very quickly.
The build was a project of love by Jeff who used to be the GP sidecar mechanic for the late Barry Brindley and purchased the engine from Brindley's estate. Jeff known for his exquisite handmade specials set about his interpretation of a replica of the TZ Flat tracker ridden and made famous by 3 times 500 GP Championship Kenny Roberts when after taking his bike to its only race win he stated
“Yamaha don't pay me enough to ever rider that son of a bitch again”
Jeff designed and handmade the frame and swing arm from 41/30 chrome molybdenum steel – the forks are from a FZR Genesis the wheels are stock TZ. The Exhaust are hand welded to perfection from a Swarbrick kit. The engine was rebuilt and as you can imagine has done very few miles as the bike is more for show and demonstration than riding down to the south of France.
The deceiving part of the bike is the fact that an RD 400 tank was used. this was done so that it could be cut away underneath to hide away electrics and plumbing – it now only holds a couple of gallon of fuel good for around 25 miles lol!
The build of the bike was documented in the March 2005 Classic racer page 8 and then 5 page article in July 2010 issue of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics. (see pictures)
Jeff entered and won the Isle of Man Ramsey sprint on the bike so she is proved her racing pedigree and also to be very fast too!
The bike is very little used therefore in fantastic condition and would make a great ‘ONE OFF' addition to anyone's collection. There are just a couple of marks on the bike. one on the paint of the seat and on left hand exhaust (see pictures)
The bike is push start and could possibly benefit from a side stand but to be fair it looks awesome propped up against any pub wall on a sunny afternoon.
