Honda CR480 Twinshock Machine
Arguably. the finest open class twinshock motoX machine available in the world today.
Built by Phil Denton Engineering to full factory spec. One of the Team USA bikes for the 2012 Vets MXDN.
This machine has been used only 3 times – it was raced by Chuck Sun at Farleigh Castle 2012. it was subsequently tested by Ed Bradley for the November 2012 Issue of DBR and finally was used by Team South Africa in the 2013 Vets MXDN.
The spec of this bike is as close to a full factory machine as it is possible to get. All used parts were fully re-furbished to as new condition during the build and a vast array of very special new parts were also fitted. including a new. British made. 5 speed gearbox. KLP alloy swing arm. Holly Equipe fuel tank and ‘top of the range' Works Performance ‘Racer' piggy back shocks.

Chassis/Cycle Parts
Frame
1980 Honda CR250 frame. modified to take a CR480 engine and re. powder coated in RAL3020.
Forks
1987 Honda 43mm cartridge forks. Disc caliper mounts removed and drum brake anchor block welded into place. Fork legs re-machined internally to remove distortion. new bushes. seals and springs fitted. Stanchions re-hard chrome plated. sliders vapour blast cleaned. PDE billet CNC machined alloy fork leg top bolts fitted with bleeder valves. The Honda 43mm cartridge forks are generally regarded as amongst the finest conventional motoX fork ever made.
PDE Triple Clamps
CNC machined from billet 7075 T6 aluminium alloy to give a massive improvement in front end ridigity. Anodised black. Steering stem and all bolts custom manufactured by PDE in high tensile 431 stainless steel – bolt heads drilled and dished as per HRC items. Handlebar mounts rubber mounted using genuine OEM Honda rubber bushes. Renthal ‘Windham bend' handlebars.
These triple clamps have been designed to move the handlebar position forward to improve rider ergonomics and to give a much more ‘modern' feel.
Front wheel
1983 Honda CR480 twin leading shoe hub and brake. Powder coated in satin black. Fitted with new bearings and brake shoes. Fully heat treated high tensile 431 stainless steel PDE front axle. Brake linkage manufactured by PDE in stainless steel. Stainless steel butted spokes. gold Morad rim. Dunlop MX51 tyre.
Rear wheel
1981 Honda CR250 hub and brake plate. powder coated in satin black. fitted with new wheel bearings and brake shoes. Stainless steel butted spokes. gold Morad rim. Dunlop MX51 tyre. PDE. CNC machined. fully heat treated high tensile 431 stainless steel axle and nut. PDE alloy wheel spacers – anodised silver. Talon 54T alloy sprocket. Renthal chain. PDE stainless steel rear brake rod and fittings.
Fuel tank
Holly Equipe. ‘HRC Replica' alloy tank. The ultimate in Japanese quality. this tank alone costs over a £1000. Fitted with PDE CNC machined alloy tank cap. anodised in black.
Swing arm etc.
KLP ‘signature' alloy swing arm. 1. 5” longer and less than half the weight of a stock swing arm. for vastly improved stability and handling! PDE CNC machined alloy rear brake torque arm with spherical bearing ‘rose joint' rod ends. PDE CNC machined billet alloy front chain roller lowering kit.
Fully heat treated. high tensile 431 stainless steel PDE swing arm spindle and nut. PDE CNC machined billet alloy/carbon fibre chain guide using Honda CRF450 guide block. ‘Hot Foot Moto' front chain slider.
Rear shocks
Works Performance ‘Racer' piggy back type. Alloy bodies and reservoirs and triple rate springs. Genuinely the finest rear shocks available to anyone other than factory teams.
Plastics
Top quality VMX Racing. 1980 CR250 plastics used throughout.
Airbox
HRC Replica fibre glass airbox using DT1 foam filter and 1980 CR250 cage and base assembly.
Seat
Genuine 1980 Honda CR250 base with VMX Racing replacement foam and cover. PDE billet alloy brackets and internal bracket retainer plates/captive nuts.
Exhaust system
PDE. HRC style. hand-made alloy silencer. PDE. CNC machined. billet alloy exhaust mounting bracket set. Custom built exhaust pipe.
Controls
Domino 90 deg. throttle. Renthal grips. ‘Quick adjust' lever assemblies with Venhill cables.
VMX/Pro Form wide footpegs and IMS gear lever.
All Bolts/Fasteners
PDE high tensile 431 bolts used throughout. All bolt heads drilled and dished as per HRC items.
Engine
1983 CR480 5 speed. Rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. All castings vapour blast cleaned prior to painting of crankcases and side covers in satin black.
Cylinder re-linered to standard size bore and ported. Wiseco piston. Rebuilt crankshaft.
Gearbox rebuilt with newly manufactured (in Britain) full gear set – all gears manufactured with reverse cut on engagement dogs as per factory machines. New. OEM Honda clutch plates.
Carb
38mm Keihin flat slide carb fitted – fully reconditioned with new slide. needle. jets etc.
Ignition system
Fully re-conditioned generator and CDI box and new genuine Honda coil.
No expense was spared in the manufacture of this machine. To build another example to this standard would cost over £15.000! If you are serious about twinshock racing. then this is THE winning machine.
