Description
1962 Norton Dominator. in 650SS style. genuine 650SS engine
Here is a beautifully restored Norton Dominator 650.
This bike has had a fortune spent on it to bring it back to this condition in 650SS style.
The bike starts easily and sounds superb. It doesn't smoke and is quiet mechanically. The bike ticks over well and the twin concentric carbs are well balanced.
It's a joy to ride. featherbed handling. powerful front brake decent back brake. smooth gear-change etc. Smith's 120mph chronometric speedometer is working well. charging system is also working well.
This is a nicely restored bike that appears to have covered around 500miles since rebuild so is just about run-in and tried and tested to some extent.
I have really enjoyed riding this bike. It is very smooth and soon reaches 70mph. The riding position is very comfortable. I know Norton straight bars would probably look better but the standard touring bars fitted take almost all the strain off your shoulder blades! (anyone who's done a 300 mile day on a Norton with straight bars will know what I'm talking about!).
The bike comes with V5C document. registration YVU 719. frame number 18 103741. engine number 18SS 105987 (genuine 650SS engine). These numbers match the V5C document. Date of registration is 10th July 1962. It has an MOT until November 2014 and free historic class road tax until November 2014 also.
Cosmetically the bike is in near pristine condition. It has had that few hundred miles of use. but would clean up almost like new!
The enamel on the frame. side panels & headlamp etc. is all of a very high quality stoving. The tank also appears to be a superb high standard of finish.
Front rim is a flanged alloy with dull stainless spokes and as new Avon ribbed front tyre.
Rear rim is flanged Akront alloy with dull stainless spokes and as new Avon SM MKII tyre.
Chrome on mudguards. primary case & exhaust etc. is all excellent-perfect.
Seat is as new. rear shocks are new looking DOT items. There is no fin damage on the engine whatsoever. The crankcase looks to have had a weld repair where possible a breather was once fitted. Also the lower mounting lugs of the engine have been weld repaired. All looks very sound.
Both side & centre stands are fitted and in good order.
In all this is a superb eye-catching example of a Dominator 650 in 650ss trim. It really looks the part and rides well too! Don't miss it!
