Description
1974 Norton Commando 850 Mk2a.
This is generally regarded as the best Commando. having the more refined and lusty 850 engine in the 750 style chassis. with none of the weight and emissions stuff that came with the Mk3. An American import. the bike shows only 10. 00 miles. When I got the bike. the tank and side panels had been repainted in the original candy red. and it had new tyres and silencers. Since then. I have done the following:
New stainless mudguardsTri-Spark electronic ignition (£250 - the best available)New coilsNew ABE front disc - drilled and lightenedRGM master cylinder conversionNew Hemmings PR front pipesK&N air filterNew DID chainNew stainless US spec barsIridium plugsNew MotoBatt Glass Matt BatteryRecent tyresRecent oil/filter change (Valvoline VR1 20/50)
Matching numbers. some history (including US owner details). MOT until August (but I can't see any reason why it should not fly through another test). Starts. runs and rides really well. No smoke or unwanted noises. Lights. horn. brakes. gears. clutch etc. all work as they should. Quick bike with loads of torque and grunt. Does not sump the oil (very unusual!). Front brake really works well and is up to riding in any situation. Exhaust threads are perfect and have never been damaged or repaired. Running the original twin Concentrics which are properly balanced so it ticks over beautifully.
This is a 39 year old bike which has never been fully restored so it's certainly not perfect. but it is a very attractive and unmolested Commando. Please feel free to view it or call me if you want any more info. The chrome on the rims is not great but they look fine and are the original Dunlops. Seat is original and in nice condition with no rips or tears. Original steel tank/side panels. I have the indicators which will be included and can be back on in 20 mins but I prefer the bike without them. As far as I can tell. the engine has never been apart and the overall condition supports the recorded mileage.
V5 is present and in my name. I've only done a couple of hundred miles on it since I bought it about a year ago. and now I've just got a modern bike for an all year round daily commute so it has to go.
