Description

The Rickman brothers made their place in history in the 1960s by producing beautiful. strong. lightweight frames for a variety of British powerplants. initially for scramblers and then for road racing.
Rickman initially supplied frame kits as none of the major British motorcycle manufacturers would sell engines to them. they built many different engines including Triumph twins. BSA singles and Matchless however in the mid-1960s Rickman also produced road-racing frames for AJS 7R singles and in the 1970s they began selling chassis kits for Japanese bikes like the Honda CB750 and Kawasaki Z1. Notably the road bikes were the first to use disc brakes both front and rear. Weslake was a cylinder head specialist who had been instrumental in modifying the side valve standard engine.
In 1966 Dan Gurney commissioned Weslake Engineering to build a three litre V12. Formula One engine. Gurney won the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch and the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix with the Eagle-Weslake V12 engine and in addition to three further Jaguar Le Mans victories in the 1950s. Harry Weslake and his company provided the Gurney-Weslake cylinder heads for the engines that powered the Gulf Ford GT40 Mk. I's to two consecutive wins at Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. Weslake Engineering also then went on to design a series of successful motorcycle engines during the 1970s that were also used in early karts.
