Description
This is my fabulous & fun 1942 Harley-Davidson WLC 45" or 750cc Flathead. Looks absolutely brilliant with just the right level of patina - old and cared for rather than new faked. These old Harley flatheads are fantastically reliable - guess that's why the army ran so many in WWII. Shortly after I bought it from a local chap (thanks John) I had the bottom end rebuilt (as a precaution) by famed Harley 45 expert Fred Warr. Fred also supplied any parts required and much advice whilst going through the whole bike. Rebuilt in the style of a stripped down flat track racer/bobber. it was built to ride and it has some minor mods to make it more user friendly in modern traffic. The wheels are the correct 18" sizes. but run Japanese brake drums front and rear to give more stopping power than the old Harley retardation (ooeer!) devices. These old flatheads can struggle to breathe a bit (Vics VapourRub works for the rider!). so we lightly ported and relieved the barrels and heads. fitted some slightly lumpier cams ala WLDR and a less restrictive more adjustable Mikuni carb. It also has the generator mount blanked off using a removeable cover with a race style oil catcher and a vintage Joe Hunt Magneto ignition. If the new owner wished then a generator could be bolted straight back in place of the cover and lights fitted - I just preferred it this way. These mods are time proven well known aids to giving a 45 a little more pep! All the other big lumps are genuine Harley D - the frame. forks. tanks. handlebars. mudguard. motor. transmission etc. In short. it's lots of fun. nice and light. pretty nippy by 45 standards and ready for the new owner to ride anywhere - Linkert Attacks. Ace cafe. TripOut. Old Timers rally or the local chip shop! Selling simply because it doesn't get used these days and after 17 years of ownership it's time for a change! It's never failed an MOT in the time I've owned it. but doesn't need one anymore anyway and is free to tax as a historic vehicle - this and classic insurance makes it very cheap riding for maximum smiles per mile. This old Harley is one of those wonderful bikes with options - you can jump on and ride it as is. change it to suit your tastes and personality or restore it back to standard (seems a shame!) - either way. it's lots of fun. I've uploaded a very amateur video (sorry. y first ever!) of it running at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6T_hMrgTZE Took the photo's and video this morning after a lovely ride out and around Cambridge in the winter sun. Many thanks for looking and good luck.
