1910 Douglas Model D

1910 Douglas 350cc Twin. Very early example.
A nice original unmolested example of a very early veteran Douglas. We are told there are only 3 older Douglas motorcycles surviving.

This is a single speed Model D Douglas. It all looks correct and sound.

In tidy unrestored condition, with a UK V5 registration document and a copy of the old brown logbook. We will be pleased to offer 12 months MOT & tax to the new owner.

It does not have a Pioneer certificate with the paperwork, but there would be no problem getting this very original bike accepted.

A rare chance to own one of these sought after Douglas motorcycles.

The Douglas Engineering Company was formed in Bristol by brothers William and Edward in 1882 at first as a blacksmiths shop, but soon expanding to become an ironfounders. After the turn of the century and the advent of the motor vehicle they soon became involved in the development of engines.

The first Douglas motorcycle in 1905 was just a prototype engine by Joseph Barter which by 1907 had evolved to become the Fairy Motorcycle. This was followed by a long line of horizontally opposed twin cylinder machines of 2.75 HP.

After a successful endurance test from John P'Groats to Land's End (39 hours 40 mins) the Douglas achieved almost instantaneous popularity and by 1911 200 men were employed at the Kingswood works. The Douglas flourished in the 1920s and 1930s and was a great favourite with speedway riders; the marque survived until 1956.
