Description
After much soul searching. I have decided that my motorcycling career of over 40 years is coming to an end. My Daytona is therefore up for sale.
As you will see from the photos. the bike has been converted to a high handlebar system. This was done to try to overcome a couple of problems : 1. My hands suffer really badly with numbness and cramping when I ride. 2. I recently suffered some damage to the nerves in my spine. making the traditional riding position very uncomfortable. The conversion was done last winter by myself. It features a modified standard top yoke. with Triumph risers. machined to fit the cambered surface of the yoke. matched to black Renthal bars. No part of the fairing has been modified in any way. It took a while to get the bars in the right position so that they clear both tank and fairing. but with a little patience I managed it. When the bike was MoT'd in May it was post conversion and the gents at Shorrocks were quite appreciative and complimentary about the job. The best thing about the conversion is that absolutely all the standard parts to return it to the original riding position are included in the sale. That's everything - top yoke. bars. cables etc. - it could be converted back in half a day. The other most noteworthy thing is that the bike is currently a single seater. At some time the near side pillion footrest lugs (on the subframe) corroded and broke. I don't carry a pillion anymore. so it was an easy decision. for me. to remove the lugs altogether and buy a pillion seat cover which I sprayed up to match the colour scheme of the bike. I managed to find a suitable place to locate the exhaust support bracket. Again. all the parts to return to a pillion carrier are included in the sale (pillion seat. footrest. hangers etc.). BUT a replacement subframe would need to be acquired. There is an aftermarket exhaust fitted. primarily because the sound of that engine should be muted as little as possible. The original exhaust is also included in the sale. There are numerous other bits and pieces. like short. black levers and an l. e. d. rear light. And. again. all the standard parts are included if required. The bike is generally in very good condition. both mechanically and aesthetically. Obviously. it is 14 years old soon and hardly likely to be perfect. but it is good. I have looked after it and loved it as only a lifelong bike obsessive can. When I first got it (a couple of years ago). it was to replace my old T595. with the intention of doing some continental touring. That never came to fruition. but the bike was prepped as if it would fulfil that role. The fork stanchions were recorded at vast expense. new seals and oil. obviously. Last winter I stripped the swinging arm and replaced any dodgy bearings. cleaning and regreasing as I went. I also stripped. cleaned and serviced the brake calipers thoroughly. new seals pads and fluid. of course. All the consumables. tyres. chain. sprockets. clutch. brakes are very good. The photos are not great. but they are only there to give a general appreciation of the bike anyway. I'd hope that if anyone is genuinely interested they would like to view the bike in good light. I'm sure there are many relevant details I have forgotten about. or not covered. so. if you have any questions at all. please ask - I'm always happy to spend time talking about bikes. Viewing is positively encouraged. The kettle is always on. Because this is highly likely to be my last bike. I will have a fair selection of decent gear to be sold also. The person who buys the bike will have first option on it. After that I will advertise it separately. This bike and I are genuine.
I thought I might forget a few things. The bike is fitted with a Datatool System 3 alarm. Both key fobs are with it and both work. The alarm. as far as I can tell was fitted when the bike was supplied new from Fowlers in Bristol. It has always behaved itself. Also fitted is a quick access tank cap. The original is included in the sale. The short levers are. in fact. alloy silver. I did order black ones. but couldn't be arsed to send the silver ones back when they turned up instead. There are adhesive grip pads fitted to the tank and a Triumph tank protector also. And the forks were. of course. rechromed. not recorded. Just for clarification. the rear light shown in the photos is the original. two bulb unit. A new. smoked lens led unit now sits in its place. This lovely bike doesn't want for much and is summer ready.
