Description
1965 BSA B44 VICTOR GRAND PRIX
Where to start with this great project.
This is a genuine BSA B44 Victor GP which left the BSA factory in October 1965 some months before the production models were available to the public. the frame is nickel plated but has been painted black. this would suggest it may have been an early works bike before being sold through Comerfords of Thames Ditton.
As most BSA enthusiasts know trying to trace the history of these rare bikes is almost impossible as they were passed between riders and the factory and privateer riders also bought them after the works riders had used them.
This particular bike is a very rare matching frame and engine numbers example that seems to have been used for trails/ISDT events back in the day and was road registered which it would have had to be for these races. the oil tank was larger (Nickel plated) and the bottom oil feed was re-sited to keep it out of harms way.
I was hoping to trace the bike back to it's original owner and have found the keeper back in the mid 70's who bought it as a project and kept it for over 30 years having started works but never completed it. the log book was lost and the reg number is a still a mystery.
I intended to restore back to a standard GP but a pending house move means funds are required.
This GP has many of the rare original parts inc
GRP air box. correct tank. correct rear QD brake hub (smooth no fins). correct crinkle hub (Goldstar no speedo drive). correct swing arm. GRP side panels with correct fixings.
Engine is the original and has a rebuilt bottom end and correct GP gearbox (only 2 cogs different to standard but rare). no top end. no carb. no primary drive. no front wheel. not sure if forks are correct. no front or rear mudguard.
What you see in the pics is what you get.
cash on collection only. these bikes are almost impossible to find with original frame and engine. you may not get another chance to buy one.
Please view before you buy.
Bike is located 5 mins from M1 junc 35. Sheffield. S Yorks.
I have had lots of enquiries as to whether the bike is a genuine Victor GP due to the frame having been altered for trails back in the 60s. I am 100% confident this is a GP. the BSA owners club have verified the bike from detailed photo's and frame and engine rubbings. they know there stuff and will not issue a certificate if they have any doubt over stampings etc.
I also have pictures of the bike coming out of storage from the mid 70s when sold in 2008. I will e-mail these to anyone requesting them.
The bike is also on the GP Victor register and the custodian of the register and a Victor expert has today seen pictures of the engine and believes this may be a sandcast crankcases example.
I am happy to send high resolution pics to anyone requesting them. or better still come and have a look and see the great patina the bike has. this is not a copy or replica and is a rare beast indeed.
