Description
1988 KAWASAKI ZG1300-A3
Arguably the biggest. meanest and baddest machine to emerge from the crazy late 70's. early 80's; the Z1300 was undeniably a monumental piece of 2 wheeled engineering for its day and remains jaw droppingly unique. It singularly defined Kawasaki's image as the manufacturer of 2 wheeled missiles and made the CBX 1000 look like a fragile toy!
Due to recent revisions to my own collection. I am offering a rare opportunity to purchase what is probably the finest example of its type on the road in the UK today. or anywhere else for that matter! It is of course the ‘ZG' or fuel injected model. which is the best derivative of this iconic marque and THE one to own on a practical level. With barely 16000 genuine miles under its wheels. this bike is in show standard and complete. With only 6 owners from new; in the possession of one of its owners (for 17 years) it spent most of its days as part of a collection and barely turned a wheel in that time.
As can be seen from the photographs. it has been lightly modified to suit MY tastes. but more importantly. in order to preserve original items such as the exhaust silencers and rear shock absorbers. which money cannot buy. These items. which have been stored and in equally superb condition; will be sold with the bike so that it can be quickly and simply returned to standard trim (see ‘naked' photo) if the next owner so wishes however. once they have sampled the glorious sound emitted from the custom reverse cone ‘silencers' fitted. they may opt to leave it as it is!
The bike in its current form. benefits from new Progressive Suspension rear shock absorbers and Avon Road Rider tyres which. in combination with braided brake lines and modern pads. transform the handling and stopping power of the bike to a level only dreamed of back in the day.
In Feb 2015. the bike appeared as the main feature in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics magazine. in which the feature writer Jonathan Bentman. extolled the ‘big Z' riding experience: “The motor is. of course. the main course here. It's a wonder of engineering. It certainly stretches out the 130hp in all directions. With fuel injection on this A3 model making for smooth. glitch-free take-up from tick over you can ride anywhere effortlessly. and at a pace. using the midrange that extends from about 3000rpm upwards. You may never actually find the top end. but it's there. Just when you might be thinking it's all over. and we're talking well over 7000rpm. suddenly the Z1300 makes like a 600 supersport and shrieks in an utterly unexpected lunge for the redline. ”
So if you are looking for a rare but ultimately practical and fast appreciating classic that has been maintained to the highest order and is ready to show or go; with documented history. recent full service and current MOT; look no further.
