YAMAHA RZV500R MOTORCYCLE. Better version of the RD500

Some say the ultimate 500cc two stroke race replica. How does it vary from the RD500 that was produced in far greater numbers? Firstly it has a hand-built aluminium frame as opposed to the RD's heavy steel unit. It does not have the pillion grab handle over the rear seat, but where an electric starter lever is on most new bikes, this lever allows the water temp gauge to double as a fuel tank level gauge too. Neat idea and works too. There is also a red warning light in the speedo to show when you are doing 55 mph as this was the top speed allowed in Japan. Makes you jump the first time you see it, as it also doubles as the low two stroke oil light! If it comes on and you are doing only 40mph then time to top the two stroke oil tank up. If you are wondering what the slightly yellow colour tape is on the beam frame rails that is the original protective film that Yamaha fitted in 1984!
The bad news. The engine appears to have broken a crankshaft bearing. It was running fine. I suddenly had an unexpected 3 month stay in hospital due a lung problem. Came out of hospital. Went to kick start the bike. Graunch. Oh dear. That's it. So good news is, it wasn't broken with a running engine. I fully intended to sort it out of course but my health is getting far worse. Its a bu**er, but that's life!
The bike is in my name on V5C. It is a matching numbers bike. It has its two genuine original Yamaha ignition keys that also fit the helmet lock. The front springs have been changed to better Hagon items. I do still have the originals though. The bike sits on black RD500 wheels as the original owner preferred them, but the gold originals are included in this sale. There is an original brand new, wrapped RD500 tinted screen unused too.
The bike is all original. No cut plastics or non std cans etc. The Japanese used restrictor washers in the exhaust headers have been removed from the exhausts and the carb jets all altered to suit.
To recap. Bike needs engine out and the bearing replaced. Stan Stephens said about 2.5k for a full refresh.
New tyres required of course and a battery required too. I reckon if you do the work yourself then 2k sorts the bike out totally. The fairing plastics are all good. There is a spare oil pump and various spare gaskets etc.
I have owned the bike since 2015, but I just had problems pushing it outside to take the pix so know I won't be able to manage the engine out work. : (I saw a You Tube video a few years back that said only about 900 of these bikes still exist due to attrition. Probably less now. Rare machines. Anyway, take care.
