Description
This is bike was built from scratch from original A75 parts in 2018 as a Hurricane replica, registered and briefly road-tested, but mostly stored since then due to the original builder's house move and my back injury. It's currently configured as the funky mk2 tanked special shown in the second pic (note the rare original mk2 tank badges) - looks like a real compact 'pocket rocket' in this form. But it's a true shape-changer of a bike, capable of appearing in a number of guises, according to taste. You could convert it back to Hurricane spec in a weekend as it comes with all the X75 parts shown in the first pic and plenty more besides. In fact you could ride a different bike every summer for the next five years without buying another one as it comes with many extra styling parts. Customise it as much as you like without worrying about messing up a pure original. Indulge yourself. Treat it like a blank canvas. Cafe, low rider, hill climber, road racer, MX, chop, mk2 roadster, bobber... whatever look takes your fancy.
It was built from the ground up in 2018, using parts from a number of A75s. The engine was built up from a set of bare cases, fitted with a reground crank, cylinders honed, new pistons and rings, rebuilt gearbox, new bearings and seals throughout. It has a rebuilt head with valve seats to suit unleaded fuels. A spare frame was professionally de-tabbed and modified to slimline Hurricane spec by a specialist frame builder.
Many new parts were used throughout the bike's build, including new wiring harness, rebuilt wheels with stainless spokes and new rims and tyres, a whole front end and tank/seat unit and fenders. To register the bike, the DVLA required an inspection certificate from the VMCC. They then issued the bike with their own VIN and a 'historic vehicle' V5C. The bike is registered as an L reg. 1972 A75, so it qualifies for MOT exemption and zero road tax. The bike was road tested after commissioning but has since been in store for eighteen months due to a back injury. It will therefore require light recommissioning and a carb clean before use by the new owner. It's just a hop and a skip from a perfect X75 replica, so you could take it all the way there if you fancied, or customise it in a different direction and produce your own unique build. A great opportunity to express yourself.
Condition is good but not pristine – there are a few minor nicks and scratches here and there but nothing major. Generally very tidy. Dead easy to roll onto the centre stand – easiest bike I've ever had. Has a nice easy clutch too. I think I have a video somewhere of the bike being started and warmed up briefly in very cold winter temps by the previous owner. Drop me a line if you'd like a copy. The final composite pic needs a little explanation. The two top shots are of a very slinky A75 lowrider I wish I'd bought a few years back, but didn't. So instead, I searched out the same parts needed to produce my own version of that bike. This current bike will therefore come with those front and back-end parts too, so you can have that look any summer you fancy it.
Good bits: Fully rebuilt engine and gearbox. Reground crank, cylinders honed. New pistons and rings. Reconditioned cams. Rebuilt wheels, new rims, stainless spokes. Fresh tyres. Boyer electronic ignition. Head set up for running unleaded. Largely new forks and yokes. New head bearings New swingarm bearings. New chain and sprockets. New wiring loom. Oil anti wet-sumping valve fitted. New controls and switchgear. Nice light clutch. New fenders. Stainless fixings. New coils. New oil tank. New shocks. Brakes pro setup. Easy-on centre stand. Nice slim frame so easy to get your feet down. Feels light to move around. Comes with many extra parts for a range of custom models. New airbox/filter. Inspected and certificated by the VMCC. Comes with a selection of various Triumph Hinkley silencers I was going to try out for a quiet ride.UK reg with V5C in my name.
Not so good bits:Non-matching numbers. Registered as a 1972 rebuilt classic, built from parts. Has a DVLA VIN number. Slight oil leak from primary chain-case area. Electrics need minor attention - e.g. lights etc. and the odd terminal cleaned. Will need light recommissioning and the carbs cleaned after standing for 18 months. Head is an A75 model, not X75. There are two broken fins on the head (it's had those from the start). No chokes fitted, but they come with the bike as well as the cables and choke control if you want to fit them (recommended for easy starting).
Seat has a couple of loose fixings/threads that will probably need replacing.
Note, there are no returns on this item.
Please note, the hydraulic table shown in some of the pics doesn't come with the bike! However, it will be available to the buyer for £275 if they want it. It's nearly new, all complete, in excellent condition and full working order. If you're having the bike collected you could arrange for the courier to collect the table at the same time. Also, I have an e-start parts set for an A75 - doesn't come with the bike but could be available to the buyer on a similar basis.
The bike will need to be collected from Harrow, NW London, which is outside the ULEZ and conveniently located between the M25, M40 and M1.
Payment must be by prior bank transfer or by cash on collection.
In addition to the parts already mentioned, the bike will come with a standard Rocket 3 exhaust header, downpipes and Raygun silencers along with the currently fitted Hurricane pipes and silencers. A BSA A75 factory workshop manual and a selection of A75 and Hurricane parts manuals are also included. Plus anything else I can find that might be useful to the buyer.
