Description
This Ariel Leader was built in September 1959, registered as historic, no MOT history on DVLA, Mileage says 50,016 on the clock, not guaranteed on a bike this age. V5 in my name and address.
It has matching engine numbers and frame numbers, and all the other details in the V5 are correct, even the colour.
I bought this a covid lockdown project, I test drove it before I bought it, I took it off the trailer when I got it home drove it up and down my road and then drove it in the garage parked it and stripped it down.
I then had all the panels and the chassis tub professionally paint stripped, (there are loads of steel panels) I then knocked out all the dents and dings (most of them) and sprayed it black and white as you can see in the pictures. I used Hammerite gloss black and gloss white. There is no filler on this bike's panels. (like there was when I bought it)
The engine and gearbox were not stripped down, they worked ok when I bought the bike and still work ok after I rebuilt it, starts and runs ok, although it doesn't like this cold weather, but it does start.
I have bought the following for the bike during the last few years : - new screen. 2nd hand front top fairing, from Draganfly new indicators, new indicator switch, new flasher unit, new battery, new Rectifier, new glass in front headlamp, new rear light, new number plate, new stand assist handle, new horn and button (not original type). 2nd hand luggage rack, 2nd hand replacement rear forks. Numerous nuts, bolts and bushings. It does need the rubber connector between the carburetor and the chassis frame, although it works ok without it.
It has new tyres, I did not fit these the last owner did, but they still have the bobble bits on to prove they have not been run.
I also bought the panniers (and had them paint stripped) with lids and a new pannier fitting kit, the pannier lids fit ok with the correct seals from Dragonfly and the original locks hold the lids on but there are no tumblers in the locks because there were no keys, but they look great, as does the whole bike.
The electrics all work but the indicators need wiring up.
Everything chrome could do with tidying up, maybe re-chromed, your choice really
A few manuals are included in with the bike.
Regrettably I do not guarantee anything on this bike because of its age, it really is bought as seen in the listing, if you need more pictures just ask, and you are welcome to come and view, again just ask.
I live in West Wittering on the South Coast of the UK, post code PO20.
For your own safety I do not recommend riding it home, it needs checking over properly before it is ridden any distance.
Why am I selling it ? I am afraid health has got the better of me in the last 2 years and it has to go to a new home where it can be ridden regularly.
