Description
A time intensive restoration project that's taken me 2 years to complete. This is a one previous owner from new 1975 model year Suzuki gt 750 m'. The mileage is genuine from new. I bought this machine from its original owner from new in Ohio U. S. A. in 2010. I then had it shipped to me here in the U. K. and totally stripped it and restored it to what you see here in the photographs over the last two years. This is the 4th gt 750 I have totally restored I have been the Suzuki gt marque specialist for the vintage Japanese motorcycle club here in the U. K. for quite a number of years now that's not to say I know "everything" about them. o one ever does. but having grown up with these machines and built them up out of their crates new at dealers when young. I think its safe to claim I do know what I'm doing when it comes to correctly restoring one. do not for a minute believe there is any such thing as "the best one" but this bike is up there with the very. Very good ones I think its fair to claim. "totally restored" means the engine has been taken totally apart by a gt engine specialist and the all important crankshaft oil seals replaced by Chris Appleby engineering. The crankcases. barrels and cylinder head were first put into a barrel cleaner machine to get them squeeky clean they were then ceramic cleaned by alloy polishing specialist Stephen Smethurst of Manchester. Who also polished all the exterior engine cases. barrel sides. and qtr cylinder head sides to a very high degree of shine! This is evident in the photographs the engine stripper and rebuilder I used has over 30 engine strip and rebuilds to his credit with gt 750 Suzuki. he mentioned when stripping it down initially he had never seen an engine so clean internally of all the ones he's done. This again bears out the mileage on the clocks as "genuine" and the original cross hatching boring/honing marks from the factory could still be seen in the bores of the barrels when stripped. othing has been left out. The seals in the brake pistons and master cylinder have been replaced for new genuine items and stainless steel pistons fitted to the front brake calipers also. Pads at the front are new genuine Suzuki and rear brake shoes also new genuine Suzuki. nothing that's been changed consumable items wise is anything other than genuine manufacturers parts.
The bike is 95 % original of how it left the factory when new. Only the consumable items were changed because of age. I have used some of the best professional people when it came to the following. Re-chroming everything "chrome" on the bike has been professionally rechromed including the entire original exhaust system.
The frame. swingarm. and stands. olks etc. have been plastic coated by triple s' of Bingley West Yorkshire a superb job. With absolutely no rust marks on any of the framework it was that good when I received the bike. Correct colour matching has been achieved by using the services of rs motorcycle paints who are experts at matching the original colours on these machines. Again painted by a professional painter with an eye for detail the paintwork on the fuel tank is superb.
Its also fitted with a brand new Yuasa battery the same model one it would have had fitted to it from the factory when brand new. The original factory supplied toolkit has been re-zinc plated and is still in its original un-ripped plastic bag. likewise the electrical panel also contains the small plastic bag fitted at the factory containing 2 spare 20 amp main fuses. The machine has not been U. K. registered this is something best left to the buyer otherwise it will show an additional keeper in the log book. Something I'm trying to avoid. It has been correctly imported into the U. K. and is listed on customs and excise new Nova system. It is a relative straight forward procedure to U. K. register and aquire an age related registration number on a machine such as this. the original U. S. "title" document their equivalent of a log book is also supplied with the machine this confirms year of manufacture and year of registration. Nothing has been missed in this regard and it normally takes 3 working days once the paperwork has been submitted to Dvla to receive a U. K. age related registration number for an imported machine such as this. It has also been fitted with a correct U. K. period type reproduction Suzuki VIN plate stating the frame and engine number on it. as per factory correct attached to the front frame in the region of the top yoke. as you may expect everything is correct mechanically the engine sounds excellent the carbs were all completely stripped. leaned and fitted with new pilot. and main jets. long with choke kits and new gaskets. "nothing!" has been missed out in this regard right down to new throttle cables and spark plugs it is also worth mentioning the bike is "one" key that is to say it still has all its original locks fitted to it all operated by the one ignition key as per again supplied when brand new. as good a professional restoration as you might expect on a vintage genuine machine such as this and one which would suit both the serious enthusiast and or collector. As you may expect with a project such as this great care has been taken to ensure its as good as it can be. long with literally hundreds of my man hours.
Thanks for looking.
