Description
BSA A7SS Shooting Star Spec 500cc
Here is a beautiful example of how a 57 BSA Shooting Star should look. This bike was rebuilt / restored some years ago but remains in excellent useable condition. easy to start. sounding good. smooth engine. nice tick-over. no smoke!
It is very comfortable to ride. decent brakes front & rear. The Smith's 120mph Chronometric speedometer is working well. the dynamo is charging well also.
Gearbox and clutch are both spot on. This is a well sorted well used restored bike that has actually won many awards at shows over the years.
It is easy to forget this is only a 500cc it goes as well as many a 650cc and much smoother too!
It was apparently rebuilt & re-registered in the early 1980's.
It has V5C registration certificate. registration number is LSV 739 (transferable). frame number is FA7. 16666. engine number is CA7SS 1535. These numbers match the V5C doc. There is historic class (free) road tax until December 2014 and of course the bike is pre 1960 MOT exempted.
According to the V5C the bike is declared manufactured 1957. Date of registration is 01/10/1983.
Cosmetically the bike is still in beautiful condition.
There is excellent stoving on the frame and beautiful chrome & paintwork on the tank. No blemishes in the chrome. The mudguards have beautiful authentic metallic green enamel also. Must have been a professional job.
Wheel rims both have some flecking in the chrome. Spokes front & rear are clean & tidy “rustless” type. Front tyre is Avon Speedmaster ribbed. rear is Avon Speedmaster II.
The exhaust is very good and the seat is like new. There is no fin damage on the engine & it is oil tight. There is no sidestand fitted although the pivot fulcrum is intact.
All in all this is a very beautiful. authentic looking award winning rebuild of a BSA Shooting Star. A model generally considered as a true classic!
