THIS RELUCTANT SALE IS FOR MY MUCH LOVED IRONHEAD CHOP
FIRST REGISTERED IN 1984 AND WAS BUILT WITH A 1976 1000cc XLCH
ENGINE. I DONT KNOW WHO BUILT THE FRAME BUT THEY CERTAINLY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AS THERE IS SOME REALLY NICE ENGINEERING ON THIS BIKE. THE BILLETT WORK AND BEARING CARRIERS FOR THE SWING ARM ARE A VERY NICE TOUCH.
I BOUGHT THE BIKE IN 2006 AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS ON THE ROAD IT NEEDED A LOT OF WORK. THE GEARBOX WAS REBUILT AS IT KEPT JUMPING OUT OF FIRST GEAR AND I RODE IT TILL WINTER THEN I STRIPPED THE WHOLE BIKE HAD THE FRAME AND SWINGARM POWDER COATED SPRAYED THE TANK AND REAR MUGUARD CHANGED THE HANDLEBARS REBUILT IT AND RODE IT TILL WINTER.
THE NEXT SUMMER THE BIG END DESTROYED ITSELF SO HAD TO STORE IT AGAIN UNTIL I COULD REBUILD THE ENGINE WHICH I DID OVER 2011/12. THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY STRIPPED AND I REPLACED THE CRANCKSHAFT (had it lightened and balanced). CON RODS. BIG END BEARINGS. AIN BEARINGS. LITTLE END BUSH'S. PISTONS AND RINGS. REBORED THE BARRELS TO +. 50 I ALSO REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT BUSHINGS AND BEARINGS AND HAD THEM LINE REAMED (as you should). THE OIL PUMP MAIN SHAFT AND BUSHES WERE REPLACED. GEARBOX TRAP DOOR BEARING WAS REPLACED AS WAS THE CLUTCH BASKET BEARING. AND DRIVE SHAFT BEARING. I UPRATED THE FINAL DRIVECHAIN TO 630 GOLD O RING AND HAD SPROCKETS MADE TO ORDER (raising the gearing). FITTED A NEW COIL. POINTS AND CONDENSER. POINTS CAM SHAFT. ADVANCE AND RETARD UNIT.
I WILL SUPPLY 12 MONTHS MOT ON THE BIKE BUT IS CURRENTLY ON SORN
I HAVE DONE SO MUCH TO THIS BIKE ITS DIFICULT TO LIST IT ALL HERE AND I HAVE LOADS OF RECEIPTS FOR PARTS AND ENGINEERING WORK.
