Norton 850 Commando Interstate 1977 Electric Start

Here I have for sale my Norton 850 Commando Interstate 1977 with an Electric Start. (which actually works very well)

I bought this last year with the intension of using a lot. but unfortunately personal and work issues have got in the way. and so I'm going to sell it.

Generally good condition for the year. but room for improvement.

The engine was running fine but a bit smoky on one cylinder when I bought it. so had a mechanic take the barrel off. to find the rings very lightly seized. so it's had new pistons and cam followers. plus the barrels have been honed and now no smoke. but needs more running in as I've only covered a couple of hundred miles since the work was carried out. although the miles will still go on as I am still using as and when I can. The sprag gear was also changed at the same time. which apparently is a common fault.

Gearbox works well with no issues at all.

The tacho doesn't work. but I will try and fix in the mean time. time permitting.

Sadly most of the history has been lost before it reach me but I do have a few bits and pieces.

Speedo shows just under 20.000 and I have some old mot certs confirming this mileage. the earliest one being from 1998.

As regard the condition. I would describe it as very good for the year. bearing in mind it's age. There are some rust spots on some of the chrome work and some other crazing as well.

I have upgraded the front brake master cylinder purchased from Mick Hemmings Motorcycles. which makes a huge difference.

There is a small dent in the R/H side front of the fuel tank. (See Picture)

I have also fitted a Stainless Steel rear rack. which could be easily removed and the original grab handle refitted which will be supplied.
