Description

The eponymous 'Gold Star' was an award given to all Brooklands machinery capable of lapping the outer banked circuit in excess of the magic 100mph. The name was appropriated smartly by BSA for their pre-World War 2 racing motorcycles. originally based on the 'Empire Star' model. and after the end of the war was to be applied to a range of motorcycles. all of which are now considered icons. The ultimate development of the range. designated DBD34GS. in clubman's racer trim with its clip-on twin instruments. u/c ratio box and swept back 'twittering' exhaust. is the one most easily recognised. but equally valued by the BSA enthusiast are its touring and off road model cousins. It is said that there are many more 'Goldies' on the road now than were ever produced at Small Heath. which is no doubt more than a rumour when you realise that 13 different versions were produced in the years 1949-63; all based on the ubiquitous B31 and B33 frames; with replicas not difficult to construct which can easily mislead the unwary. All that glitters sometimes is not gold where Goldies are concerned. Very important then. considering the investment required to acquire one of these beautiful machines is that a 'wrong-un' is identified and a 'right-un' selected.
This 1963 BSA Goldstar. originally supplied in Middlesex. was purchased by the vendor in 2011 as a restoration project. Once started the vendor decided as this motorcycle started life as a very desirable DBD34GS Clubman. that the Goldstar should be returned to its original state. A genuine correct engine. with the standard bore size. was found and restored using only original BSA parts. as was the rest of the bike with the only change being the correct size Akront aluminium wheels with stainless steel spokes. The restoration. finished in black and chrome. has only just been completed and is supplied with a V5C registration document and the original buff log book.
This is a rare opportunity to purchase DBD34GS Goldstar that may not be numbers correct from the factory but nevertheless is an original Goldstar Clubman café racer.
