Seller notes: The down side is that is does not have an original Speedo, the battery is in the toolbox, it wet sumps a bit, it burns a little oil and it has a lazy dynamo, but what do you expect – its 75 years old.
Description
Painted in matt RAF blue. Engine no A2-4034. Frame no W26346.
This 1940 16H Norton was completely rebuilt two years ago when a new age related number was obtained. The documents claim the frame is an original 1940 WD and the engine is 1946. we know from the records the bike went to North Africa during WW2. The bike was rebuilt to ride. it was hand painted using a bass broom and a 4” brush. No chrome or stainless steel bits. its as the DR's rode it in 1940.
It has done 2500 miles since rebuild; it has been ridden over to France twice visiting WW1 and WW2 battle sites. Like the curates egg there are good and bad parts. The good parts are that it is an original WD bike. Its an easy starter. it is comfortable to ride and will do 45-50 mph all day long.
The price is based on the above information. I do also have an original un-restored 1940 WD 16H engine for an additional price.
I'm selling on behalf of my father.
