Description
Genuine H1 500 Mach III Electronic ignition 1969 model
Produced on 28th June 1969
In 1969 Kawasaki unleashed the H1 Mach III 500. A stunningly beautiful motorcycle which left all other production motorcycles languishing in a trail of blue smoke. It became known as 'The Widow Maker'.
The H1 motor produced 60bhp at 8.000rpm - in a bike of just 174kg. The result was a stunning bike that screamed through the quarter in less than 13 seconds at over 100mph. and “trounced any mass production motorcycle regardless of displacement”. according to Cycle World.
Just over 6.500 1969 models were produced compared to around 15.500 1970 models. making a genuine 1969 H1 the prized jewel of any Kawasaki collection.
The U. S. was the target. but a small fraction. probably less than 1000 bikes. were manufactured for the European market.
Most of these European bikes had a contact breaker points as a cheaper option to the electronic ignition model (these bikes have engines starting at KAF-50000) and some Triples fans wrongly believe that ALL European bikes had points. but this bike is one of the very few that came with the full spec. electronic ignition from the factory- as the bike was designed. and therefore has a normally sequenced engine number. close to the frame number. This is a rare bike. The authenticity of the engine and frame pairing has been confirmed by Kawasaki along with the production date (28/06/1969) and the European country of sale (not UK) - which is where I bought it four years ago.
As you can see from the photo's. this bike is a beautiful example in excellent fully restored condition with a lot of time and expense spent on authenticity. It's mechanically perfect and has a new wiring loom. It is a genuine low mileage bike which has always been well maintained and was already in great condition before restoration. although it had been resprayed. It's very fast. and a thrill to ride and never fails to draw admirers. a stunning machine with superb styling and awesome acceleration. A truly iconic motorcycle.
