BELOW IS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE BIKES HISTORY FROM WHEN PURCHASED IT -
Please ask yourself this question. "When was I last offered the chance to purchase an 878 mile from new BSA Gold Star DB32?" If like us your answer is never. please read on to learn how Silverstone Auctions can pose that question to you now. This is a very exciting 'find'. We use the word find cautiously since 'VTA 40' has been hidden in plain site for some twenty years at the National Motor Museum. Beaulieu. We're very proud to be chosen by the owner of the last twenty years to assist him in a sale. Here's the story of how the current owner came to acquire this striking BSA.
"My wife's family come from a small hamlet in Devon. From my first visits in early eighties I was aware that an elderly gentleman living on the outskirts of the village was a "biker" and had a collection. One day. probably around 1987 I was passing his workshop and made his acquaintance. his name was Reg Luxton and he was an engineer from the old school. We got on well and he showed me a Matchless. an AJS. and this Gold Star which was on a bench at eye level. He told me it had been to the Isle of Man in 1956 but never got to race. After the races the bike was bought by Freddie Hawken. a motorcycle racer and dealer of Newton Abbot. who bought the machine from BSA direct and immediately sold it to his friend. Reg. Over time the Gold Star became well known to many bikers in the area. and coveted by all who knew it. It came that whenever I visited my in-laws. I would spend some time with Reg. We often discussed the Gold Star and Reg was worried about it finding a good home when he passed. eventually selling to me. and I agreed to do my best to get the bike exhibited at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. where it has now been on display for some twenty years. Reg conducted some light cosmetic restorative work on the bike. but mainly just kept it clean and tidy as a matter of personal pride. On purchase Reg gave me a letter confirming the then mileage of 871 from new. I have ridden it but once. hence the uplift in mileage from 871 to 878. On this occasion the bike started after a bump start. ran well. pulled strongly and sounded awesome"'VTA 40' is being sold with a spare "road" carburettor for ease of starting and added tractability but not with its current license number which will be retained by the owner and substituted by a period plate. It's rightly considered that the new carburettor will make the motorcycle more user-friendly than the current race carburettor should the new owner choose to take to the roads. There are no MoT certificates to accompany this Lot since the last time the bike was used. they were not in being yet. The original tax disc is still in the holder on the bike. As we hope you'll agree. this BSA is a real "find" and a little jewel for the enthusiast collector or savvy speculator alike.
The bike is in its original condition with its original patina - i. e. not a restored show pony or a garage queen. The mileage is as per the photograph 879 miles from new. apologies& for the typo.
The original registration number VTA 40 is on the bike and staying on the bike - thus included in the sale. Gearbox - RRT2. Rims - Chrome Dunlop's.
