Description
Gold Star forks coupled to an A10 Catalina style frame - no pillion loops and no lug for a fork lock. this chassis is about as rare as it gets.
Introduced in 1957. the vast majority of these motorcycles were exported to the U. S. A. -intended for the increasingly popular 'off road' competition. They were supplied without lights. speedometer or silencers and fitted with a Super Rocket engine with type 357 'full race' camshaft and 9:1 pistons. the BSA Spitfire won three out of the top four positions in the September 1957 Peoria National Championship TT.
This motorcycle has never been registered with the DVLA or it's predecessor's because it too was only ever used for competition - note the 'lightened' top yoke and the racing plate screws on the left where a tool box should reside on a road-going version.
I've rebuilt the forks and replaced the steering head bearings. Re-assembled the wheels using stainless spokes and nipples and replaced the handlebars.
There is an engine and gearbox but unsurprisingly. it's 'suffered' and I don't want to inflict any bad will into negotiations by pretending that the powerplant is as good as the chassis.
Finally. there's a growing renaissance in these 'Street Scramblers' but just check out the rear passenger frame loops - you can spot the genuine from the copies so easily.
