Description
This is an 877 original mile bike - with original gauges - a 45 year old barn find - and of of the finest big bore 2-stroke bikes ever produced.
I collect unusual cars and motorcycles. I have owned this bike for 15 years. I bought the bike from a gentleman who used to own a Yamaha dealership - I am the second owner. The original owner rode the bike 853 miles before putting the bike in storage - it was last licensed in June of 1977. When I bought the bike in 2005 I felt it needed some cosmetic restoration - which I have been busy working on over the years.
The bike came with the Original/Complete Factory Tool Kit & Genuine Factory Service Manual, complete with mechanics greasy fingerprints and name inside the cover. It also came with the Original Owners Manual plus Original 6 page Yamaha Sales Brochure plus a 4 page Yamaha Sales Brochure. Later on, I purchased an original issue of Cycle Magazine from 1975 that has a complete road test of this bike. I also purchased a 2 page magazine advertisement of this bike - all of these additional items are included with your purchase of this bike.
The bike has: Original Tank with original paint; Original Gauges; Original Seat; Original Wheels & Original Tires. I painted the frame and exhaust and many of their small parts.
Anything that was originally chrome-plated (except wheels) has been re-chromed. Some of those items are; Front Forks; Handle Bars; Rear Shocks; Exhaust Shield; Front and Rear Brake Arms; Front Fork Reflector Holders; Axle Chain Adjusters; Shift Lever; miscellaneous springs; and many other small parts including nuts and bolts.
Any parts that were originally zinc-plated got new zinc-plating.
I have spent many years searching for pristine NOS parts for this bike (100+). Some of these are: Silver-painted Headlight Bucket; Silver-painted Headlight Bucket Fork Ears; Headlight Bulb & Chrome Rim; All New Front & Rear Blinkers and Mounting Hardware (34 pieces); Swing Arm Bushing; Chain Guard Rubber; New Taillight Lens, Bulb, and Seal; New Rear Foot Pegs; Clutch & Brake Handle Covers; New Fuel Petcock; Air Filter; many new Carburetor parts; New Pulsor Coil; New Spark Plug & Ignition Coil; Plug Cap & Wire; New Battery; New Decals on Exhaust Shield; New Decals on Handlebar Controls; New Foot Shift & Kick-start Rubbers; New Main Fuse & Holder; New Cylinder Fin Rubbers; New Fork Seals & Dust Covers; New Mounting Rubbers & Dampers for top & bottom of Speedometer & Tachometer. Many miscellaneous rubber grommets; New CDI & Tool Kit Rubber Straps; New Cable Ties; Decompression Valve Rubber Cover; New Black Plastic Side Cover.
Bike has had recent service - including all new fluids; air filter;spark plug; carburetor ultrasonically cleaned; and tune-up. Bike starts; idles; and runs well - lots of power.
Since completion, the bike has been ridden an additional 24 miles - currently sitting at 877 original miles.
This is probably the lowest original miles bike you will be able to find of its kind and condition - a true collectors bike.
The reason I bought this bike and endeavored on this long project is that I had one when I was just out of high school in 1977; when I found this bike; I just had to buy it and restore it.
I have tried to take very detailed pictures - please study the pictures closely to ensure you are comfortable bidding on this bike.
There is no warranty with this bike - it is sold "as is".
I will be happy to make sure I am around whenever it ships to the new owner.
Thank you for looking at my auction.
