Description
1940 Triumph 3HW 350cc running project with V5c
Here is an interesting project which could be restored or improved in a number of ways. I believe it basically to be an Ex WD Triumph 3HW which has been converted to a track bike/ vintage racer!
The bike starts easily either by push start or on a roller. I have experimented with a kick-starter and it starts easily but the rear set footrest is in the way!
The engine runs well but there is work to do. The primary drive case for instance is a bit loose and the chainwheel has clearly fouled the cover and rubbed through it!
I have ridden the bike enough to report that the engine feels willing, the gearing is quite high, The speedometer works, gear and clutch all good.
Brakes are very poorly set up hardly working.
The bike comes with a V5C certificate, registration NXS 826 (cannot be transferred to another vehicle). Frame number is TL16541, engine number 3HW56234. Date of manufacture is declared 1939. The bike is registered as an Historic Vehicle therefore MOT exempt and road tax is free.
Cosmetically the bike is not great. Paint on the frame is very old and scruffy, touched up and brushed up.
Wheel rims are very good and would clean up really well. Spokes front and rear are also very good looking plated type.
Front tyre is 21” Avon SM MKII ribbed in unused looking condition. Rear tyre is a very good looking 19” Avon SM MKII.
There is no fin damage on the cylinder barrel but there is one very small chip from the lower fin of the head just behind inlet pushrod tube.
Tank is quite battered looking and has filler here and there. It's holding fuel OK though and has not been linered internally with Pet seal or the like.
An interesting old Triumph either for restoration / renovation, spares or repairs.
