Description
This bike was originally Candy Gold when it was purchased new by the first owner in 1973. The Kawasaki dealership location was Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Because of family health related problems, the first owner parked the bike for many years with 5,179 miles on the odometer.
The bike was never crashed or abused. The second owner purchased the bike and let it set a few more years having intentions of restoration, but instead he sold the bike to me in 2016 with the odometer still clocking 5,179 miles.
I have the original dealer Bill of sale, with the Kawasaki warranty card that was issued to the first owner. The VIN number, the stamped frame number, and the embossed engine number match the dealer paperwork. This bike has been parked most of its life. I have included two pictures marked "Before" and "After" restoration. I think you all will agree, even though this bike was perfectly original and complete, it deserved a modern-day restoration. In 1973 Kawasaki offered two color choices for the H2, Candy Gold, and Candy Purple. My six-year restoration started with a professional Candy Purple paint job completed by Precision Motorcycle Painting, South Bend, Indiana, which included new paint for all painted parts. I have included high-lighted pictures of paint chips located on the left side battery cover body panel. Another picture shows a frame chip that can be seen when the seat is raised. These small chips are the only paint flaws I know of, and they are not obvious unless the body panel is removed or the seat raised. The inside of the fuel tank was cleaned and sealed with a sealant that was developed by Ducati. Decals were purchased from Rick Brett, Nottingham, England. Rick is hands down the go to authority when it comes to Kawasaki Triples. The rider's seat, of all the parts that were restored, only needed a cleanup. It is very comfortable and in amazing condition for age 49. The speedometer and tachometer are in pristine shape, and only needed exterior black wrinkle paint. Original items like the chain oiler tank and oil pump are still on the bike to appeal to Vintage memories, but chain oil is no longer needed. A JT-530-X1R X-Ring self-lubed chain has replaced the factory chain. A light spray of Maxima chain wax takes care of sprocket lube, and the bike stays much cleaner. Light bulbs were replaced with correct wattage NOS Kawasaki bulbs. All original wiring harness electrical was traced, inspected, and all switch contacts including ignition switch, and control switches, were disassembled, cleaned, and refurbished with Kawasaki NOS parts as needed. All chrome parts were triple chrome plated, including the beautiful stock exhaust pipes, by Precision Plating of Quincy, Illinois. Aluminum parts were polished by Tadlock Bros., Iowa City, Iowa. The Crankshaft was restored by Dave Singleton, owner of Dave's H1/H2 Restoration Services, Livermore, Ca. Klemm Vintage in Fort Mohave, Arizona specified the Wiseco pistons and completed the engine machine work that makes it possible for this H2 750 engine to survive running on modern 91 octane no ethanol fuel. Barnett performance products, Ventura, Ca., supplied the clutch. Buchanan's Spoke and Rim, supplied polished S.S. spokes for the chromed original rims. Modern Pirelli tires were mounted and balanced by Cycle 136, Evansville, Illinois. last and absolute best help came from good friend Eric Brown, owner of EB suspension, Burlington, Iowa. Eric has countless hours of tending to the details involved with a six-year restoration of a 49-year-old Triple 2-stroke. Every part of the engine, transmission, and front suspension was rebuilt by Eric. I have enjoyed riding this bike an additional 104 miles. While this bike would look great in a museum, it deserves to be enjoyed by a rider. The engine idles smooth with stock carb jetting combined with the original factory air cleaner assembly and factory exhaust pipes. Engine and transmission performance is flawless, and she is not even broken in yet. Three keys come with the bike, two fit the ignition switch and one key fits the seat lock and fuel tank cap lock. Holey Moley this bike is a thrill to ride! A 1973 Time Machine. You may ask why am I selling? My wife cannot ride with me anymore, and I do not enjoy leaving her home while I ride alone. You all have an opportunity to purchase a truly Rare Kawasaki motorcycle. In my opinion, you may not see another turnkey ready to ride H2 of this quality for quite a long time.
