Description

1974 Kawasaki H2 Mach IV 750cc Two Stroke Triple.
Do you actually want to ride your H2? This bike is not for everyone but it might be just what you are looking for!
This bike was originally built by noted Triple Builder, Dean Gaetano of South Carolina. He had built it as a relatively original appearing cycle but with performance upgrades associated withthe most carefully built hot rod versions of this iconic classic.
The stinger style, super light, stainless steel exhaust system was obnoxiously loud andthe lack of center stand made normal maintenance and tuning an unnecessary hassle. My vision was different from Dean, although he has been instrumental in helping me build the bike to my desires.
The 750 Two Stroke Triple has plenty of power, in my opinion, as astock sounding street machine. I wanted to be able to start my bike and leave theneighborhood without offending the people around me without the loud rat-a-tat-tat with thestinger exhaust. I wanted to ride my bike on daily rides and maybe some short tours. Toachieve this, several items needed to be addressed.
1) High compression pistons needed to be changed back to stock units to make it moretractable at low and medium RPMs. There are less than 250 miles on this top end, justbarely broken in.
2) Stinger pipes were replaced with a stock exhaust system, powdered coated flat black byArmor Coatings of Salt Lake City, and I repacked the stock baffles with fiberglass. Thesebikes were barely street legal with the stock exhaust but now it's tolerable.
3) NOS rear rack was sourced on eBay and installed so you can carry your lunch in a cooler.
4) I sewed up a tank cover from a yacht fender cover to protect the absolutely pristinestock paint job. Note, this bike has a very rare fuel gauge in the fuel filler cap. Have youever seen one of these? I will include a nicely fitting tank bag and rear soft saddle bags.
5) Note the pic of a rare option for this bike, which is included for the next owner toinstall should they desire. This option is a complete dual front disc brake setup that would add another special feature to this unusually pristine motorcycle. Also included is a nicely matched windshield to make those afternoon rides more enjoyable. The bike has a switched LED voltmeter so you can keep your eye on battery and charging health.
6) Tires are excellent.
7) I also have an freshly powder coated crash bar for this bike, should you want to take the touring look to the next level.
8) Center stand has been powder coated and installed for ease of maintenance
The following is from the build sheet from the prior owner, Dean Gaetano. It is is just a overview of the care that Dean put into the original build.
a) Engine – Charlie Smith rebuild crank with rubber seals.
b) Paul Gast transmission with new Koyo bearings.
c) Paul Gast undercut all gears in tranny preventing gears from slipping out under highload.
d) Paul Gast Hot Street port job on cylinders.
e) Ralph Shipman Recast Heads with modern combustion chambers. Note! Heads take B9ES NGK plugs (extended reach).
f) VM34 Mikuni carbs with UFOs.
g) Niche Cycle lightweight carb springs.
h) 17.5 Pilot Jet, DH3 needles, PO needle jets. I will include my notes on re-jetting to amore lean burn as I de-tuned the engine from the all out powerhouse that I had boughtfrom Dean.
i) Jim Hobbs Lakeland ignition box with factory CDI pickups. This ignition is the industry standard and will start and operate on lower voltages than other options.
j) Paul Gast clutch plate and springs.
k) KH500 ball bearing clutch actuator – really light pull.
l) Ball bearing pressure plate pusher.
m) Completely rebuilt oiling system.
n) Timing set at 23 degrees on each cylinder separately.
o) NOS handlebar controls.
p) Completely rebuilt front forks.
q) New Ikon brand rear shocks.
r) Henry ABE Star rims.
s) Completely rebuilt and calibrated tachometer and speedometer.
t) LED headlight conversion.
Note! The pic of the bike with the gazebo is of the bike approx. 5 years ago with no center stand and stinger pipes. The paint job is "better than factory" and I will try to ad more pics in the next fre days. Email me with questions or requests. Thanks.
Also note! Some of you have asked for pics of tank so I rolled back the cover and took a few. The paint is amazing and I cover it back up before riding it. I do NOT detail clean my bikes. I ride them and they always show daily driver bugs and grime which do not bother me. When I buy a bike I like to see them in as "as is" state rather than a "just washed" look which means water is is places that promotes corrosion. New buyer can bond with the bike by doing a deep cleaning.
If you have read this far, you realize this is a special bike. It is NOT a stock original survivor which takes hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to bring into reliable dailydriver status. It is NOT a loud peaky hotrod (although still plenty powerful) that makes your neighbors cringe when you start it and ride away. Rather, it is a relatively stock looking bike and build job by a noted expert in Triples, Dean Gaetano and completed by me to satisfy my vision of this bike. It includes a complete dual disc brakeset-up with master cylinder for you to install this winter for fun.
Dean gave me permission to publish his name and he may be available to consult with should you be lucky enough to be the new caretaker of this machine. I have two other Triples in my stable and this H2 is the nicest by far of the fleet. Please note, that I wrote that I had a master cylinder included with the dual disc setup. I was mistaken. It may be that a different master cylinder is needed to run the dual disc setup. You may want to research that assumption.
