Description
This bike was built from a fairly complete collection of parts. Previous owner was in the Navy stationed in Puerto Rico and had two Harleys. When he transferred to California the Navy would only ship one vehicle, so he sent this bike in parts.
The frame was powder-coated, new bearings in neck and swing arm. Shocks are from a new Dyna and lower the bike 1 inch. The forks have original risers, trees and headlight, tubes and lower legs are reproduction and use the newer dampers and springs which are a big improvement over original. Handlebars are Vtwin speedster and we shortened the spirals.
The FL motor has the nicest pieces I've seen in a Pan motor, Perfect matching cases, .030 original cylinders, perfect heads. Lower end was line lapped, new bearings, crank rebuilt, rods rebushed, new bearings and balanced by FHP in Oxnard who did their usual perfection resulting in a smooth-running motor. Heads have new valves, guides and springs. Cam is Andrews B grind. Generator is 12V. Ignition is auto advance with Blue Streak points. Carb is a Linkert M74B.
Trans has a 3/3 date code apparently like most of the 50s transmissions have and was gone through with new bearings and any worn parts replaced. One detail is we mixed up some trans parts and inadvertently used a FX lid resulting in a reversed shift pattern. One up, three down. I kind of like it but we can swap it if you want. Clutch parts are new with a chain drive and original primary cover. Mousetrap works nicely. Oil tank is reproduction as the original was pretty rusty inside. Seat is a KR repro from Vtwin and is much narrower and easier to kickstart. Gas tanks front and rear fenders diamond fender tips tail light, lic plate mt. are original Harley. Dash and speedo are original and 1958 dated.
Wheels are 70s Harley, powder-coated with original star hubs and stainless spokes from Buchannans with Avon tires.
Bike runs great, easy starting and no details were overlooked on this build.
