Description
1933 Sunbeam Model 14 Long stroke 250cc.
Here is a lovely post-vintage Sunbeam 250cc twin port model 14 “Long-stroke”. This bike has obviously been restored, used and looked after for some years. It remains in in very attractive, good running condition. It is super-easy to start and is lightweight and easy to ride and maneuver. Starts easily and sounds superb, not smoking and had very good oil circulation, metering tap set to 1 for normal running and to 3 for oil off to prevent wet sumping. The engine sounds great, hard to believe it's only a 250 from the exhaust note! Rides really well too for a little'un. Gears and all good, no jumping out of gear or anything like that. Clutch is good, brakes are good particularly the rear. Speedo working well. Engine is lively and responsive.
This would have been a great little bike for nipping around town back in the day. Nowadays it is more suited to pottering around the back lanes and B roads. It has a nice solid dependable feel, especially trundling along in top gear.
The bike comes with an up to date V5C doc, registration XXS140, (cannot be transferred to another vehicle). Date of registration is 9/9/33. So just a mere 92 years under its belt! Frame number is 9038, engine number is 445015, these are genuine stampings and match the V5c. It is registered as a Historic Vehicle, therefore road tax is free and it is MOT exempt.
Cosmetically the bike is very clean, tidy and presentable but some light patina has returned and it has a quite mellow charm to its appearance. The enamel on the frame looks sound and in good condition but it doesn't look to be a professional stoved finish. Tank has had a nice paint job and the pin-striping has been done correctly but some marks and other signs of use are apparent in the tank's paint work upon close inspection. Inside the tank is in mint condition and has not been linered. Mudguards etc. have a similar practical but not particularly brilliant standard of finish. Wheel rims both have good black paint with black painted spokes and clean shiny nipples. Front tyre is a good, lightly worn Avon SM MKII ribbed (20”x3.00). Rear is a very old looking but unworn Firestone. There is no fin damage on the engine. Exhaust system is very good but there is a small dent on the right side silencer. This could be hidden by swapping the silencers over.
All in all this is a fun and interesting post-vintage Sunbeam. A real quality piece of Wolverhampton's manufacturing history, still looking good and sounding great today. Don't miss this handsome little 250 Long-stroke Sunbeam.
