Description
1971 NORTON COMMANDO 750CC ROADSTER. VERY PRETTY EXAMPLE TAXED & TESTED. V5C
Here is a very clean and tidy . nicely restored example of the Norton Commando 750cc “Roadster”
This bike starts & runs well . It has Pazon electronic ignition and the carbs have been ultrasonically cleaned out!
There is a good charge from the alternator which is fed through a modern solid rectifier / regulator unit. (no need for Zener Diode) . A new Dynovolt 12V battery is fitted.
The bike sounds great. There are no knocks or rattles and no smoke. It really pulls like a train but I have only done about 40 gentle miles (all below 60mph) because it may need running in. There's no mistaking the engine's willingness though!
The bike is lovely to ride. crisp and well balanced good handling. The brakes are OK and improving / bedding in with use but they are not the best in the world!
Gearbox and clutch are both A1.
Speedometer was indicating about twice the true speed so that will need looking at . the rev counter is working OK. Both are the original Norton Villiers “Green Spot” logo items.
The bike comes with an up to date V5C document.
Registration number is HUK 105J. frame number 149192 (located on VIN plaque). engine number 20M3S/149192. gearbox number 149192 also.
All numbers match the V5C document.
There is a Norton Owners' Club dating letter which states the bike left the factory on 28th July 1971.
There is an MOT valid until October 2014 and a historic class (free) road tax disc valid until October 2014 also.
Cosmetically the bike is really very good indeed. It is not restored to a concours but to a really clean and tidy very presentable standard.
The paint on the frame is a really excellent standard of enamel in superb condition.
The red paintwork on the tank and the side panels is also superb.
Mudguards and good stainless ones.
Front rim is an excellent original Dunlop item. good clean original dull rustless spokes & nipples. Front tyre is as new Dunlop TT100.
Rear rim is also a Dunlop original . It 80% perfect but has a few patches in the chrome. Rear spokes & nipples are good clean rustless items . the rear tyre is an old looking TT100.
The seat is not new and is showing some ageing (inc a 1” split). The silencers are also not new. They have decent chrome but both have a few minor dents and scratches.
Both side & centre stands are fitted. the centre stand is good but the sidestand does make the bike a lean over a bit too much. (works well on the curb though!!)
Overall this is a great starting point for someone who wants a commando without too much to do. It will require some running in and a few refinements a long the way I'm sure. This bike could quite easily be made into a real top example.
Don't miss this opportunity to own a nice early hub brake 750cc Commando Roadster!
