Description
1970 Triumph T120R Bonneville 650cc
Here is a very nice example of one of the most famous & iconic motorcycles of all time. the Triumph Bonneville. Arguably 1970 is the best year of Meriden's production for this model. Still in a conventional frame with normal oil tank but with several refinements and improvements added through the years to make an all round world beater.
Triumph and BSA 650 twins were still on top of the world in 1970 - hard to believe the management could self destruct such a winning formula within only a couple of years!
This Bonnie starts easily and runs very nicely. The engine is mechanically quiet with no knocks or strange noises. The exhaust note is crisp and clear and there is no smoke.
The bike is a dream to ride. great brakes. nice handling etc. etc. The gearbox and clutch are A1. The charging system is working well.
Speedometer & rev counter are both working well.
This is basically an unrestored bike although it has had a tank job. new seat & new exhaust.
It comes with V5C registration certificate. registration number VDA 101H.
According to the VMCC dating certificate it left Meriden in February 1970.
Frame number is BD 41502 T120R
Engine number is BD 41502 T120R
There is an MOT until November and historic class (free) road tax disc until October.
Cosmetically the bike is generally excellent for age not restored condition.
It has decent paint on the frame still probably the original.
The tank has been professionally repainted to a very high standard.
The mudguards are the US spec stainless type. rear is very good. front is a bit well used looking.
New seat & new exhaust.
No fin damage on engine. Engine is nice & oil tight.
oil tank & side panel have average paint on them.
Front rim is a really good original Dunlop item. Front spokes are the original rustless type. nipples have some rust but could be patiently cleaned up!
Rear rim is not so good. it is generally a bit dull with black flecks here and there.
Front tyre is Dunlop K70. hardly worn but a bit old looking. Rear is Dunlop
Rear spokes are very good & clean and nipples look pretty good too.
Both side & centre stands are fitted and are in good order.
All in all this is a very good Bonneville from one of the most favoured years of production.
It is on the road ready to use “as is” or to improve to a higher standard. Don't miss this iconic British twin!
