Description
There's never been a more versatile motorcycle than the BSA Gold Star. Introduced in 1938. the bike really hit its stride after World War II. available in either 350 or 500cc displacements and outfitted from the factory in various specifications. including touring. trials. scrambles and road racing. Fitted with its signature 'big fin' alloy cylinder from 1954. the Goldie went on to competition glory in both the United States and Europe in events such as the ISDT endurance racing. AMA track racing to outright domination in the Clubmans class at the Isle of Man TT.
This BSA Gold Star frame was dispatched in May 1957 and according to the Gold Star Owners Club records it left the factory in 'Road Racing' trim. This DB34GS engine does not appear in the Gold Star Despatch book and was probably delivered as an engine only. the engine number places this unit as one despatched for scrambler bikes. The vendor believes that the previous owner had this Gold Star for thirty seven years and it has been meticulously restored.
Another clue to the pedigree of this engine is it is fitted with a racing magneto. This BSA Gold Star is supplied with a Gold Star Owners Club certificate and a couple of interesting articles from old magazines on Gold Star Scramblers.
