Ex Con Law Yamaha TZ250D Manx Grand Prix winner 1979
On this machine sponsored by Douglas coal importer Randall Cowell Con Law won the Lightweight Manx Grand Prix and set the fastest lap for the class at 102. 51 mph. His race average speed was 101. 78 mph. a new record.
After a delay of 1 hour 35 minutes it was first announced that the race distance would be cut from four laps to two. but with less than half an hour before the new start time. the distance was increased to three laps.
Con led from start to finish. setting the fastest lap and a new race record in the process. His opening lap took 22 mins. 33. 0 secs. an average of 100. 39mph. which gave him a 33. 6 second advantage over fellow Irishman Conor McGinn. with Bob Jackson third a further 4. 2 seconds adrift.
At the end of the second lap. Con was fourth on the roads behind Bob Jackson. Ronnie Mann & Raymond Hill. but was leading the race on time by 44. 4 seconds from McGinn and Jackson.
Bob Jackson was first to complete the three laps in a safe third place. Con Law was the second rider to finish and take the winners laurels; his race time I hour 6 minutes 43. 4 seconds. equal to 101. 78 mph a new record.
In addition he set the fastest lap on his second circuit in 22 min. 05 sec. A speed of 102. 51 mph. plus together with Martin Barr. who finished 9th and Raymond Campbell who finished 12th they collected the team prize as all three where members of the Mid-Antrim Motorcycle Club.
It had been Con Law's sole ambition to win the Manx. an achievement accomplished four days after his twenty-sixth birthday.
