Description
For sale this week, we have the pleasure of offering this 1953 BB 500cc BSA Goldstar.
The frame numbers denote it as a 1953 Competition Frame, which I would say is correct, as although I most certainly am not a Goldie expert, the welding on all the frame members appears to be brazed. I am not sure, but I believe a normal frame would be welded. I'm sure some kind buyer will email if I am wrong. The frame looks okay to me, but as I say, the whole bike is a project and will need refurbishing, i.e., painting.
The engine is a year younger and is a 500cc 1954 unit. I can't see any damage, but the motor is stuck, probably just from sitting for a long time. I have dropped some WD down the bore, so maybe it will free off in a few days. No broken fins that I can see.
The gearbox is a standard refurbished item I bought recently for this project. The tank is a small-badge competition tank with the breather on top. It has a few dings and needs painting, obviously. The battery box and oil tank are there and again need painting. The clutch cases are there, but no clutch is included, so you will need one. The wheels are Goldie, I am told, but they are missing brake plates and spindles.
What's missing? Big ticket items include forks, rear shocks, mudguards, rake plates (front and back), all footrests, and brake lever (easily found as B31 items will fit, I am sure), exhaust pipe, and magneto.
All in all, this is a good start to an off-roader competition bike. Most of the bike is there, and with some work, it will be a wee belter.
Any questions, feel free to email.
The bike is advertised elsewhere, so as usual, it may be withdrawn if it sells. The website is Grampian Classic (not sure if I can say that or not, but that's where I sell some of my bikes).
There were problems uploading pictures tonight, so please wait for more to come.
Looking for a 1950 650 6T Thunderbird tank and nacelle desperately; may work something out if you have these.
I don't pay any bank charges, so please ensure you are aware of these before sending the cash. I can get this delivered to the UK mainland for £150. If you can do it cheaper, hey, fill your boots.
Frame number is BB32A2**. The last two digits are withheld, and any pictures requested will also be amended to withhold the last two numbers. Not wishing to be awkward, but not daft enough to allow the cloning of this bike.
