Description
1966 Triumph T120 TT
This is probably the benchmark Triumph TT in the UK. It was featured extensively in the Haynes Triumph T120 / T140 Bonneville book.
It comes with a letter from the Science Museum Library authenticating the fact that it came off the assembly line on 16th September 1966. and was dispatched a week later to the USA.
I acquired the bike in 2005 to form part of our small collection of iconic machines from the sixties. seventies and eighties. For various reasons. we have put all our bikes up for sale.
When I bought the bike it had already been totally restored by an enthusiast who had taken several years to put the bike back to its 'as new' condition. He was so fanatical that. for two years after he sold it to us. he would come to our offices once a month. start it up. and take it for a short ride around the carpark. to make sure everything was in working order!
I have a huge list of work that was undertaken. which included a full engine rebuild.
It's a matching numbers bike. The condition is still pretty much perfect. as I've probably only done a couple of hundred miles on it since I bought it.
It's a hoot to ride; frighteningly quick for a 50 year old bike. and with its straight-through exhaust it makes a noise that borders on the offensive!
I've priced it a £17.000.
You see some TTs being offered at £10.000 and below. but there are some dubious TTs out there you wouldn't want to own. and some sellers you wouldn't want to buy from.
I've seen bikes being offered at £18.000 and more. I can't really see that this bike can be bettered. but I've put it up at what I think is a fair price.
During my ownership. the bike has spent most of its life high up on a pallet in our dry and over-heated warehouse.
It was. however. recently serviced and MOT'd. as somebody said they definitely wanted to buy it. They then failed to turn up. The bike can be viewed pretty much any time just outside Guildford.
I wanted to close with a word about the price.
We are currently offering about 20 bikes for sale. and I am asking strong money for all of them. as they are all in near concours condition. but I don't believe we have been greedy.
Our prices are firm. however. We are not open to offers. and we are not doing deals.
We really don't want to be rude. but if you come and see the bike. we won't be particularly interested in listening to all the reasons you might think it's not worth the asking price.
£17. 00 is what we want. and if it doesn't find a new home. we're not too bothered.
Anyway. if you want to see the bike. email to arrange an appointment.
