I bought this bike in 1991 and rode it regularly until 1997 when a careless car driver forced me into a high kerb in traffic in Kingston-Upon-Thames causing a slow-motion high-side. This caused minor damage to the tank. headlamp and speedometer all of which was repaired by Miura Engineering. During this visit to Miura two hairline cracks were discovered in the frame and duly repaired.
The shiny new bits prompted me to strip the bike down and have the frame re-ennamelled and this was done by Malcolm Bell in Hampton. a specialist in classic bike restoration. Other parts such as air cleaner box. headlamp and rear light bracket were also stoved. All the bits were cleaned/polished and put in bags. the engine was drained and flushed ……and then work. life and other bikes conspired to delay the rebuild until two years ago when I decided to put it together again and the bike you see in the pictures is as far as I've got. I would call it a loose assembly of all main parts ready to torque-up. The loom is in (the most difficult bit) and works as it should. The engine is untouched as it was excellent when it came out. Although I have fitted new contacts. All parts are present except the exhaust system which. in a moment of madness I threw away. intending to replace it with Stainless Steel. I started this project to give me a nice an interesting bike to ride. NOT A SHOWPIECE. so bear in mind that there are bits of chrome that you may think need re-plating. Apart from the exhaust system it will need one or two relatively minor items to finish such as grips. footrest rubbers. rev cable. rear brake light switch and no doubt a few unforeseen extras. Please note; Due to the absence of the exhaust the engine has not been run.
Having said all that. this is an opportunity to own a valuable modern classic that is an easy to ride powerhousethat is guaranteed to turn heads especially when people hear it coming. Check out the prices these are fetching now.
