Description
For sale is my 1962 BSA B40 350cc single cylinder motorbike in black
I have had this bike for two and a half years and bought is as my entry into the field of classic British bikes. It had been recently re-commissioned at that time by a dealer and was ready to ride. I have ridden approximately 1500 miles on it since then and gradually made rolling improvements to it along the way. It is a light bike but with a 350cc engine. it has a decent performance and is very agile around the bends. It is on the road and ready to go!
The bike can best be described as “smart looking” although it is not to any concourse level of presentation. The paintwork is not original but has been done a while ago to a presentable standard and is touched up in some areas. The tank and side panels are good. without any major dents and with sound paint. The frame is solid.
The wheels are true and fitted with good tyres (the front is a 500-mile-only Dunlop and the rear is the same brand with only 100 miles on it) although the front wheel has some chrome peeling and has been touched up. The brakes are as good as these brakes can be with lots of life left in the linings. The front forks are good with new oil and seals fitted.
The engine/gearbox are very strong and the bike runs/starts well without any undue smoke or oil use. Some replacement parts have been fitted to the Amal carb to bring it back to a good state with a new petcock on the tank. I fitted Boyer Bransden electronic ignition which has made starting very easy and running as you would expect. ie pulls well from low revs right through to a cruising speed of 55/60mph. The wiring loom is new.
All instruments are correct for the bike and work well with the Smiths speedo having been recently refurbished by a UK expert.
I fitted a period-style rack on the rear and Lucas type indicators to make the bike more 21st century-friendly. but these can easily be removed if required.
Some of the better points:
· Good looking 350cc bike
· In full commission – I have just ridden over 100 miles on this at the weekend; there is nothing that needs doing to her!
· Strong engine – easy starter
· New battery
· Electronic ignition
· No advisories on MOT (to June 2016)
· New-ish tyres
· Halcyon bar-end mirrors
Some points to note:
· Paintwork is fair with no major blemishes
· Front wheel chrome is not perfect
· It has the usual oil-leaks – ie a few drips after a run. but nothing unexpected for this type of bike
If you are looking for a decent mid-size 1960s single. then look no further. I am not a dealer so cannot offer a warranty on the bike. but you are welcome to come and view the bike in Cheshire. ride her and see her in action. The photos do tend to flatter the subject. but she is a good-looking bike ready for action with the new owner. I have had a lot of fun with this B40. but something new has caught my eye and she is reluctantly for sale.
I have put a realistic price in the ad. but if you want to make a close offer. then all will be considered.
Thanks for looking
