Description
Triton motorcycle built by Dave Degens of Dresda Motorcycles in 2000.
The engine is a heavily modified 6T pre-unit (Number 6T-46941) with a dating letter for the engine dated 22.11.1953 from the Science Museum.
The stove-enamelled frame (Number 18-103892, dated 1962) is a modified Norton slimline frame with a Dresda box-section swinging arm, including bearings, shafts, and anchor, as well as Triton modifications on the front loop and a Dresda-modified headstock and Dresda yokes.
The forks are Triumph with external springs; the front wheel has an alloy rim with a stove-enamelled twin-leading shoe brake supplied by Dresda, along with stainless steel spokes and nipples.
The rear wheel is a stove-enamelled Manx hub with stainless steel spokes and nipples.
The petrol tank is fibreglass with a lining, and the oil tank is also fibreglass.
Engine specification: built for racing (see engine specification in photos).
Morgo 750 barrel and Morgo pistons with a squished, gas-flowed head featuring large valves and a centre plug conversion. The original plug positions are still usable—you are supposed to warm the engine up using the normal plug positions, then switch to the centre plugs for racing.
The crank is a one-piece balanced crank with a Morgo high-pressure oil pump.
It has the oil pressure modification, engine breather modification, and the main shaft oil seal modification, all done by Dresda.
The ignition system is Lucas Rita electronic ignition with new coils.
The carburettors are Amal 900 32mm concentrics.
The crank and crankcases have been modified to accommodate a high-output three-phase alternator with a timing disk attached, all done by Dresda.
The gearbox is a four-speed box with the main shaft modification done by Dresda.
The clutch is a Tony Hayward belt drive system with an alloy anodised clutch basket. A new belt and plates were fitted two years ago.
All the engine plates, fixtures, foot pegs, etc., are alloy and were supplied and fitted by Dresda.
I have never used this Triton for racing, only for road use—and that was very limited. It has only covered 996 miles since it was built, and only 50 miles since 2011, mainly to the MOT station and back.
It comes with a matching fairing (see photos). I removed the fairing because I preferred the bare café racer look.
The wheels, spokes, and all springs have been sprayed with ACF50 anti-corrosion fluid every year before winter sets in.
All receipts for the build are included (see photos), and the total cost of the build (excluding the motorcycle purchase) was £8,085 in 2000. It would cost significantly more to find and build such a high-specification Triton today.
The machine starts and runs excellently on unleaded fuel. The sound from the Gold Star silencers and that little twitter when the throttle is closed is music to the ears.
The Triton is tax-exempt and has an MOT, but can come with 12 months.
